Cake designers Mike and Angela Rush re-created BB-8 in cake form earlier this year, just after the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released. The cake was a particular challenge because the little droid is spherical. hey created the BB-8 cake by putting several different cakes together and carefully covering them with sugar paste and ganache to make it look like one round cake. Interestingly, the bakery is located in Hertfordshire, England which is the home of Elstree Studios which George Lucas used during the original trilogy. "In the trailer for Star Wars Episode VII we are introduced to a new character - a ball-shaped, rolling droid named BB-8. We challenged ourselves to try and make him in cake form!
The main problems were 1) he's only in the trailer for a second and is moving the whole time, and 2) he's a ball! So, with a lot of guesswork to fill in the missing details, here is the result."
