I found this excellent scarf while browsing Imgur. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a blog or Facebook page for the artist, which is a shame, because I'd love to see what else she's created. Still credit where credit is due. If you like this scarf, make sure to stop by Imgur and give this piece the upvote it so richly deserves.

Crafts: Hobbes Scarf
Prints available for purchase from Etsy. US$42.78
When I discovered this rocking Hobbes scarf in an afternoon of Imgur surfing, I went looking to see if I could find one to purchase. It turns out that Etsy seller LoopTeeLoops is offering warm crochet Hobbes-inspired tiger scarf for sale, though it's unclear as to whether or not the Imgur and Etsy users are the same person. Described as “super soft and squishy”, the garment is handmade from yarn and felt, measures 192 cm, and will help you identify yourself as someone who has great taste in comics.
"I crocheted a Hobbes scarf! Because what better way to fight off a Canadian winter than with a tiger friend?"

Crafts: NeuroKnitting
"NeuroKnitting" by Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet
in collaboration with Music Technology Group researcher Sebastian Mealla
in collaboration with Music Technology Group researcher Sebastian Mealla
Combine Science and Knitting and what do you get? NeuroKnitting! NeuroKnitting lets you wear your brainwaves for all the world to see.
These one-of-a-kind scarves are the work of artistic duo Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet, in collaboration with Music Technology Group researcher Sebastian Mealla. Together, they've established a method of plotting brainwave activity into a knitting pattern as a subject listens to Bach's beautiful Goldberg Variations wearing an EEG headset.
The neural data is then printed as a bicolor pattern using Knitic, the team’s open hardware knitting machine. The resulting scarves are wonderfully geeky fashion statements as unique to each wearer as their own fingerprints.
Visit the Knitic website to learn more about this awesome project.

"The audio was about 10 minutes long and we downsampled each second of the signal coming from the 14 channels of the EEG device. Three main features were measured: relaxation, excitement, and cognitive load. After recording, those features were converted into a knitting pattern. Hence, every stitch of a pattern corresponds to a unique brain state stimulated by the act of listening. It means the user’s affective response to music is captured every second and memorized in the knitted garment pattern."

"In 2010, I fell in love with crochet and the Japanese technique amigurumi and I have been crocheting ever since. I first saw a little amigurumi chick on a popular portfolio website and fell in love with it – How can I make one of my very own? Soon enough, I had a crochet hook in my hand and I started learning the technique from on-line sites.
I am usually inspired by famous and beloved characters in cartoons, T.V. shows, animations, but I also love to experiment with my own ideas and bring them to “life”. I mostly love crocheting little characters, but I occasionally make accesiories of all kinds, but with a cute twist."

Crafts: Crochet Mario Blanket
Read more about the blanket and check out build photos.
Gege-Crochet is what you might call a fanatic where Super Mario Bros. is concerned. For his birthday, he received this astounding handcrafted blanket. Keep in mind, this guy is six feet two inches tall, for scale. That is one gigantic crocheted Mario blanket. What's really impressive is that no pattern was used in its creation. It was entirely improvised. What's a shame is that someone probably spent hundreds of hours creating this, but no one bothered to take the five minutes necessary to photograph it properly. Still, it's a sight to behold, even misframed and poorly lit.
"There is no pattern that I followed. I searched the internet for screen shots of SMB and then used them for the map I had in my head. There is no ‘master graph’ for any of the panels, much less for the entire project. The most involved panel was the battle scene and is the only one I drew out. I have absolutely no intention of creating a graph of my entire work; however, there may be a time when I decide to make a graph of a panel or two…..dunno when/if that will happen, though."

Crafts: Companion Cube
"I've been addicted to Portal at the moment despite the fact it makes me motion sick! Its a first person shooter/puzzle game, highly addictive.
Anyone who has played Portal will understand the love and devotion of the companion cube, and the heartbreak that comes with it also, curse GLaDOS!
I missed mine so much so, that I had to make myself a little 4x4x4" plushie. Instead of using the traditional stuffing method (as everything I have made so far, barring the incident of the little foam beads (never, ever, ever again) has been stuffed with conventional stuffing) I used foam instead, its rigid and is better at keeping its shape, so rather than being a tubby supposed-to-be cube, its actually a cube."

I really truly enjoyed making these guys and I swear, I almost teared up when I packed them all up and shipped them to Washington state. There is a lucky husband out there with a wife who loves him (and Doctor Who) a lot!"

Crafts: Hobbit Amigurumi
Knitted Hobbit Company by Denise Salway from Penyfai, South Wales
According to The Mirror, an amateur knitter from Wales re-created the entire cast of The Hobbit in yarn without any patterns to work from as party favors for her daughter's wedding. In total, she created 150 favors of various design, but notes that the knitted Smaug alone took her a month to finish. I can only assume that the term "amateur" is being used by The Mirror ironically, because these are masterpieces. More of Salway's work can be found on Flickr and Twitter, and she hopes to release patterns of her work in the near future.
