Fan Art Round-Up: Pennywise from It

"That" by Dave Correia DaveCorreiaArt
A gallery of fan art featuring Pennywise of Stephen King's It.

After twenty-seven years, the clown that haunted the dreams of eighties kids everywhere returns today to strike fear into a whole new generation. If there was ever a film better designed to strike fear into the hearts of children than It, I've yet to see it.  Personally, I think Bill Skarsgard will give the great Tim Curry a run for this money.  I've already read that his performance is one of the best screen presences in recent horror film history.

To celebrate the release of the remake of It, I've compiled a gallery of the best Pennywise fan art to be found on the web.  As usual if I've miscredited any illustration or if you know of a stand-out piece of fan art I've missed, drop me a link in the comments below.

Fan Art Round-Up: Ghost in the Shell Pt 3

A gallery of fan art featuring Major Matoko Kusanagi of Ghost in the Shell.

I am SO pumped for this movie!  If it lives up to the promise of its trailer, it's going to be epic.  I'm a huge fan of the manga and anime, and I'm a huge fan of ScarJo.  I think this role is going to be a perfect fit.

When they announced the release of Snowpiercer, I spent a solid month ranting to anyone who would listen that if they could adapt Le Transperceneige, then they could adapt Ghost in the Shell.  How Snowpiercer got made first, I'll never know, but Ghost in the Shell's finally here, so I'm happy.

Here's some fan art to celebrate.   As always, if you know of an exceptional piece of fan art I've missed or you spot a piece I've miscredited, please drop me a note below!

Fan Art Round-Up: Ghost in the Shell Pt 2

A gallery of fan art featuring Major Matoko Kusanagi of Ghost in the Shell.

The big day's here!  I've been waiting for a worthy live action Ghost in the Shell movie since I was a teenager.  I was legitimately pissed when I realized a Scarlet Widow feature was never going to happen, but this is sooo much better.  My fingers are crossed that this is the first in a long lived franchise!  I mean come on.  If Resident Evil gets six installments, Ghost in the Shell has to at least merit a trilogy.

Here's some fan art to celebrate.   As always, if you know of an exceptional piece of fan art I've missed or you spot a piece I've miscredited, please drop me a note below!

If you'd told fifteen year old me that there would be a live action adaptation of my favorite manga with CG worthy of the franchise, I would have called you a liar.  But today's the release of Ghost in the Shell, and I couldn't be more excited.  To celebrate, I've rounded up a gallery of some of my favorite fan art featuring the Major, who is undoubtedly among the most badass heroines ever conceived.

As always, if you know of an exceptional piece of fan art I've missed or you spot a piece I've miscredited, please drop me a note below!

[ Previously: Fan Art Round-Up: Rey ]

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially become the fastest film to ever pass the one billion dollar mark at the box office.  People have been talking about practically nothing but Star Wars for nearly two months now.  Some people are calling the movie's star, Rey a Mary Sue, while others are denying it.  Some people are speculating that Rey is a Solo or a Skywalker (or even a Kenobi), others are making compelling arguments to the contrary.

While arguing and nitpicking is simply fundamental to geek culture, two things have become clear.  First, it was high time for a Star Wars movie to center around a woman, and second, the internet is in love with Daisy Ridley's Rey.  As the fervor over The Force Awakens has built, Rey fan art has flooded the internet.  To celebrate the film, we've gathered up some of the best examples in one place for your perusing pleasure.

As always, if you find a piece mislabeled or know of a stand-out piece we missed, drop a link in the comments below!

Fan Art Round-Up: Morpheus

The Sandman by uncannyknack

A Sandman Fan Art Gallery featuring Morpheus, Lord of Dreams

Neil Gaiman's The Sandman is the single greatest comic series ever written, and if you don't agree, fight me!  In case you've never stopped to appreciate just how amazing this series really is, pause for a moment to reflect on these points:
- The widespread acceptance of the series' literary merit marked the beginning of mainstream comics' entry into mainstream culture in the early nineties, which, in turn, lead to the rise of nerd dominance of media we enjoy today.

- Many female comic fans cite it as the series that drew them into the culture.  (Gaiman once joked that Sandman was a "sexually transmitted" fandom that boys passed onto their girlfriends.)

- Sandman was a massively popular comic book, and it didn't center around superheroes.  Once Gaiman had bucked the convention, many other artists followed suit, making it acceptable and eventually even stylish to write comics without capes.

- Sandman was the first popular series to prominently feature openly gay characters in substantive roles, rather than a topic-of-the-week capacity.

- The success of the series made Neil Gaiman a household name, and let's face facts, the man is a cultural treasure.

- Finally, Sandman seriously raised the bar for comics as art.  It looked like no other comic that had come before it, and to this day, it remains one of the most visually striking titles ever penned.
For all of these reasons and more, this week we celebrate our cult-like adoration of Neil Gaiman's oeuvre just ahead of his fifty-fifth birthday by rounding up some of the best Morpheus fan art to be found on the web, and folks, there was a LOT of fan art to sift through.  As ever, if we've mis-credited a piece or overlooked a piece you think should be included in this gallery, drop us a link in the comments below!

Fan Art Round-Up: Imperator Furiosa

Mad Max Fury Road Fan Art Gallery featuring Imperator Furiosa

I know that we've already posted an enormous gallery of Imperator Furiosa fan art, but I rented Mad Max: Fury Road this weekend, and I'm fired up all over again.  The one-armed heroine has remained a fan favorite since the day of the first trailer release, and the fan art tribute are growing more impressive by the week.  Here’s still more of the great stuff folks have been making to pay tribute to this incredible character.

Rumors are circulating that The Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan is negotiating a deal under which he would direct a trilogy of films based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s acclaimed manga and anime film Akira.  Given the rising regard with which geekdom holds Nolan's work, the rumor was a cause for celebration among even the most hardcore Akira fans.  To celebrate our burgeoning hope, we've rounded up some of the best Akira fan art to be found around the web.

Fan Art Round-Up: Pacific Rim

"ăƒ‘ă‚·ăƒ•ă‚£ăƒƒă‚¯・ăƒªăƒ " by ă‚«ăƒˆă‚¦ ăƒ¦ă‚¦
Pacific Rim Fan Art Gallery

Pacific Rim is one of those movies that come along once every few years that remind you forcefully that, even should television screens one day reach Bradbury proportions, there's always going to be a place in the American heart for the cinema experience.  The movie's plot doesn't make a hell of a lot of real world sense, but it's a wild ride.  Robots, kaiju, mad scientists - Pacific Rim has it all.  So when news came down that Pacific Rim 2 has been "Halted Indefinitely," it was heart-breaking.

This week, we've rounded up some of the best Pacific Rim fan art to be found around the web.  As always, if you think we've missed something, leave a comment below!

Edit: Guillermo del Toro insists Pacific Rim 2 is still happening!

Fan Art Round-Up: Hellsing

"Checkmate" by Thailand-based Rusharil Hutangkabodee (Rusharil)
Hellsing Fan Art featuring Alucard

Let me just say this.  If you're a fan of anime and you haven't seen Hellsing yet, you're missing out on the best horror anime series of all time.  Not only is it dark, violent, and action-packed, artistically speaking, it's beautiful eye-candy.  There are plenty of place to check it out online.  I suggest you do so immediately.  But savor mightily, because the series is quite short.

There's not a ton of Hellsing fan art floating around because the series is twelve years old, but we still managed to find a few gems.
