Sweets: Gingerbread Iron Throne

Gingerbread Iron Throne
Source: Imgur via Neatorama

The Iron Throne was forged at the order of Aegon the Conqueror, first of the Targaryen Kings.  It was forged from the 1,000 swords surrendered to him in the War of Conquest. The dragon Balerion the Black Dread melted them before they were hammered into a throne.

Personally, I prefer this one.  It was made a group of friend for their Christmas festivities.  Of course, in my house, gingerbread is even more like to cause infighting than a throne, but I can't help but think it would be worth it.

Sweets: Gingerbread Barad-dûr

Dark Tower of Barad-dûr in Gingerbread by Finland-based Jarno Koivulan

Two Finnish students decided to build a slightly more hardcore gingerbread house. Two students, Jarno and Roy, recently made the news in Finland for winning a gingerbread house competition with a 13.5 pound model of the Dark Tower of Barad-dûr from The Lord of the Rings.  You'll remember it as being the one with the giant flaming eye top it.  The two friends are (of course) computer science majors, and they speak briefly to a reporter in the article about the competition.  Unfortunately, the article isn't in English.

Sweets: Gingerbread Hogwarts

Gingerbread Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by Louisesiuol

Every once in while, a dessert comes along that seriously forces the rest of us to ask ourselves what we're doing with our lives.  This week, that dessert is a gigantic gingerbread Hogwarts, which makes all our muggle holiday desserts look pathetic in comparison.  According to louisesiuol, it took her about a week to create the gingerbread castle and about a week to clean up the kitchen.
"Its all ginger bread! The roofs are dyed green. It took alot of trial and error. Getting the right dough was key and baking it a little lower and slower so it wouldn’t melt off the mold."

Sweets: Gingerbread Overlook Hotel

Source: Imgur via Reddit

This fantastic gingerbread recreation of the Overlook Hotel from Stephen King's The Shining is made entirely of edible ingredients. The entire diorama is made of gingerbread, icing, fondant, edible paper, Rice Krispies Treats, and different kinds of candy. The Overlook Hotel building measures nearly four feet long. Its exterior walls are covered with fondant and icing, the roof is covered with quinoa and powdered sugar, and the windows are made of melted Jolly Ranchers candies.   Even the blood is candy.

The gingerbread hotel  includes five interior rooms featuring scenes from the movie, complete with little edible Jack, Wendy, Danny and evil twins.  The whole thing took two weeks to build from still frames taken from the movie.

This sweet diorama was a family holiday project, part of an annual Christmas tradition in which they make ornate gingerbread structures.

Sweets: Van Gogh Gingerbread House

IndigoSalsa made a gingerbread house and layered on the frosting in the manner of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” Plus, it includes the artist himself as a gingerbread man- with only one ear!

Sweets: Gingerbread Firefly

A Redditor points out that this may just be a Firefly class ship and not the Serenity in response to criticism that the ship's creator titled his post "Gingerbread Firefly."

Sweets: Gingerbread Smaug

Gingerbread Smaug created by Caroline Eriksson

This astonishing rendition of the mighty Smaug is worth its weight in gold!  It's the work of 3D confection designer Caroline Eriksson.  She's from one of the Scandinavian nations, but I'm not going to pretend to know which one.  She's the same artist who created the Gingerbread Gingerbread Optimus Prime.

Check out the making of video at VGTV!  You can't really appreciate this piece until you've seen how much patience went into attaching each of those scales.

This Darth Vader is the work of 3D confection designer Caroline Eriksson.  She's from one of the Scandinavian nations, but I'm not going to pretend to know which one.  In the past, she's posted a Gingerbread Optimus Prime and a Gingerbread Smaug.

Sweets: GingerBORG Cube

Borg cookie cutter available for purchase from Etsy. US$10

This Borg Cube Christmas ornament is super simple to create using this cookie cutter from Etsy.  I seriously doubt it would last long on my family's Christmas tree, but hey, maybe your family has more self-restraint.
"Resistance is futile when it comes to holiday sweets and this gingerBORG cube is no exception. Sturdy, fragrant gingerbread make up the sides of this 3D cookie vessel which can be used to store cookies, candy or even some Klingon Gagh. You will be assimilated and it begins with cookies."

Sweets: Gingerbread Hobbit Hole

Baird created this wonderful Gingerbread diorama of Bag End in anticipation of the release of the first Hobbit movie. Make sure you click through to see all of the fine details and read how it was all made.
"It's no secret that I've been counting down the days until the arrival of The Hobbit movie. And all the while there's been much constructing going on in my dining room.  I've been working on my own little piece of The Shire in gingerbread form.

The inspiration for this particular hobbit hole comes from Bag End, but it's by no means an exact replica. It's just a place where I imagine a hobbit could be very comfortable."
