Short Film: Trunk of Death

Written by Ben J. Tucker

A serial killer who dwells in an apartment building has to make like Jeffrey Dahmer every so often, and dump a corpse without anyone noticing. Unless, as in Greg Pregent’s wryly funny Trunk of Death, his oblivious neighbors happen to be way too helpful. Who knew Woody Allen was a serial killer?

Short Film: The Key

"The Key" is a ridiculous short sketch comedy that spoofs a popular self-help program.  In an interview with the Huffington Post, director Sherwin Shilati specifically cites Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret as the film's not-so-subtle inspiration.

The film made quite a splash when it was released back in 2013, largely thanks to the great chemistry and timing of stars John Forest and Neil Hopkins.  Their unrelenting, almost frantic pacing and over-the-top characterizations lend the film a hilarious tone.

Short Film: Pine

"Pine" by Robert Smith of Round One Films Ltd.
"'Pine' follows the story of Elvin, a struggling door salesman who needs a way of making a quick buck to relieve him from his dire financial straits, and he may just find it. This leads him down a path filled with consequences that could change his life forever.

Did you know 'Pine' is loosely based on a true story? The whole idea for the film stemmed from wanting to make something different (quirky and weird), and when a friend of ours told us a story of a personal experience, we knew we had something. One time, when he was working as a chef in Newquay, he woke up to his front door missing, someone had stolen it. The idea of a person stealing a front door seemed absolutely ridiculous to us. People do say you should make the films you want to see, and I wanted to see a film about that! The idea quickly grew into a much bigger film that implemented fate as an underlying theme. We truly embraced the madness for 'Pine' and created a film that's different in many ways, but who ever said different was a bad thing?"

Short Film: Digits

"Digits" Directed By Alexander Engel

"Digits" is a comedic short film with a simple premise. In it, a man struggles to remember the right combination of numbers to call a girl with whom he had a missed connection. What sets the film apart is that the film is so well executed. It's very difficult to tell such a simple story so well. Every shot and cut of the film is delivered with purpose to create a driven, well-paced film with a lot of heart.
"After losing the last two digits of a girl’s number, a socially awkward fish enthusiast tries every combination to seek her out."

Short Film: TICKY TACKY

"TICKY TACKY" Written and directed by Brian Petsos for A Saboteur Productions

"TICKY TACKY" is a dark comedy about one man's crazy revenge plot that unfolds in the style of a Wes Anderson film. It unfolds like a stage play over the course of three acts on a a single set, and it features some truly excellent performances. In it, a rich man who discovers that his girlfriend has been cheating on him with his own cousin seeks revenge. After falling through the stages of grief, the man eventually comes to settle on an attitude of immature furry that straddles the line between endearing and disturbing.
"A wealthy and powerful man is betrayed by those closest to him, and under the guidance of his trusted confidant, devises a fiery requital. With a nod to the proscenium, this darkly comedic chamber piece stars Oscar Isaac, Tim Rock, Erika Rankin, Helen Rogers, and Julian Shatkin."
