Tattoo: Ukiyo-inspired Silliness

A post shared by brindi (@brinditattoo) on

Ukiyo-e-inspired Tattoos by Maxime Gautron (Brindi)
Silkscreen prints available for purchase from the artist's website.

Maxime Gautron, owner of the Brindi Tattoo Parlor in Toulouse, France, has recently unveiled his latest masterpieces on Instagram.  They're a series of tattoos that draw inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints, known as Ukiyo-e ("pictures of the floating world").  If you look closely, though, each of his tattoos contains a small thread of silliness.  I'm not sure I'd want to wear on for life, but they sure are fun to look at.

Illustration: Men of Twin Peaks

"Men of Twin Peaks" by San Francisco-based Emma Munger

San Francisco-based illustrator Emma Munger created this awesome series depicting the men of Twin Peaks in classic pin-up poses in the style of American tattoo artist Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins. Each one is presented with a quote and accessories that match their wonderfully distinct characters. Agent Cooper enjoys a damn fine cup of coffee and a slice of cherry pie, Sheriff Truman twirls a frosted donut on his finger, and consummate angler Pete Martell is depicted in thigh-deep water holding up his infamous fish in the percolator.  Also, don't miss the Ladies of Twin Peaks.

Tattoo: May the Pizza be with You

I can't help but think that if Han Solo’s blaster had shot slices of pizza, the Star Wars saga would’ve gone very differently.  At least Jabba would have been more amenable.

I think that this is the best anime tattoo I've ever seen.  This is brilliant.

Tattoo: R2-D2 Death Star

I think I've seen a poster design similar to this before, but it's the first time I've seen the design as a tattoo.  It's lovely, but I think I would have asked for more fine details.

Aside from the missing comma, this is a brilliant homage to the fifth series of Doctor Who!  But seriously, I'd wince every time I looked down and noticed the missing comma all over again.

This is one of the best tattoos I think I've ever seen.  It's cheerful, colorful, and completely unique.  Best of all, it ties together two of my favorite fandoms.  If I ever got inked, it would totally be something like this.
"I took him a concept and he nailed it..."

Tattoo: This one.

runawayjohanna:This is perfect.

"This one."

This is a brilliant tattoo. It's one of the small inside joke sort of things that will help you identify other Pratchett fans.

"My wife is the lover of all things Asian,” he says. “This piece just always made sense to me. I’m a pop culture/sci-fi guy all the way.

Luke and Vader as samurai…Obi-Wan as a yÅ«rei, Artoo as a pagoda lamp, stolen Death Star plans, Leia as a geisha, [and] TIE fighter/Star Destroyer kite strings. You can also see Ignignokt and Err (The Mooninites from “Aqua Teen Hunger Force”) and a bit of the “Dune” sandworm [Frank Herbert] on the right arm and some of the Lovecraft tentacles and sarlacc pit on the left arm."
