DIY: Millennium Falcon Theater

YouTuber Beardless Man has uploaded a video of the Millennium Falcon-themed tablet stand he and his son made for watching movies.  He notes that the Millennium Falcon shape is not only ideal for watching as you lie down and look up, it’s also makes for good acoustics so both people inside the theatre can hear the tablet.  Plus, I have to think that it looks pretty cool sitting in a corner when not in use.  Now that I've seen one made, I may try making one of these for myself.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars story comes out today, and it inspired me to do a Star Wars DIY build. A Millennium Falcon theater, a place to lay back and enjoy watching the newest Star Wars movie without having your arms fall asleep from holding the tablet up, or having it drop on your face.

Interior Design: Super Mario Shelves

Imgur user Drew recently made this neat set of shelves to hang in his daughter's bedroom.  They're spot on.
"Made some shelves for my daughter's Mario themed nursery. I think they turned out pretty nice!"

How could you ever sleep in a bed like this?  I'd be awake all night making speeder noises.

Interior Design: Enterprise Desk and Chair

USS Enterprise Desk and Chair by Super-Fan Builds

Adam Savage recently built his own flawless replica of Kirk’s captain’s chair, but the guys behind "Super-Fan Builds" on the AWE Me channel have taken Trek furniture to the next level by turning the USS Enterprise into a glowing computer desk and office chair for a  Star Trek super-fan named Jake Geiger.  I can’t help but wonder what working with the USS Enterprise’s reflector dish between your legs, but it would be hard to find a reason to complain with this much awesomeness sitting in your office.

"BUG" Armoire  designed by Latvia-based Janis Straupe of True Latvia

This one-of-a-kind insectoid armoire is full of customizable shelves, drawers, cubbies and even a few secret compartments, it’s a beautifully functional piece of furniture as well as an amazing work of art.  If I had designed it, I would have called it the Kafka special.

Crafts: TARDIS Fold-Down Bed

Stubbs from “The Stubby Thumb” wanted to to make her guest bedroom a little bigger on the inside, but found that “murphy beds” were a bit expensive for her budget.  So, she decided to make one of her own.  Check out more pictures over at her blog as well as detailed instructions on how she built the whole thing.
"Murphy beds are pretty spectacular. They are also spectacularly expensive. I looked around, and the best price I found on a bare bones Murphy was $1899. I don’t know about you, but I have way more ways to spend money on any given day than I have money to spend. So I decided to look into what it might take to build my own, since I’d have to put one together if I ordered it anyway. I found a kit I could buy that came with all the specialty hardware (bed stops, gas pistons, legs, etc.) and written and DVD instructions for cutting the wood and putting it together. I also ordered the light kit so I wouldn’t need night tables anymore. Since Murphy beds are the ultimate space maximizers, it only made sense to build it using Time Lord technology: bigger on the inside!"

Crafts: Jaws Crib

Who says it’s too early to start kids on the path to horror movie fandom?  Sculptor Joseph Reginella, toy designer at Toxic Teddies, built a bed for his the newborn son of his friend Mark Melaccio.  The Staten Island, New York artist saw little Michael’s birth as the perfect occasion to pay tribute to his favorite film.

Look how happy that little guy is in the last photo!  You would be happy, too, if you had a bed half this cool.

Crafts: Rocking X-Wing

[ Previously: Crafts: AT-AT Rocker ]

You know Dad's pulling hard for twins when he starts decorating the nursery with Star Wars toys before the ultrasound even comes back.  I mean sure, nine times out of ten, Mom's not gonna let "Luke" and "Leia" on that birth certificates, but you never know.

Now if only someone would design a Tauntaun corpse shaped crib.
"Accelerate to attack speed as you approach the death star.. Stabilize your rear deflectors and watch for enemy fighters.  This rocking ride in star wars x-wing fighter is made from solid wood... pine, native macrocarpa and rimu.  Removable wooden R2D2 sits in the back.

Size: 1150mm long,1200mm wide, 650mm tall ( seating area is 280mm wide )  Wings can be unbolted to allow for ease of intergalactic travel in the back of a medium sized car"

DIY: Mission Control Desk

It wouldn't be weird if I just built one of these for myself, would it? I don't think so.
"In this episode of Making Fun, Jeff High Smith makes a one-of-a-kind mission control console that closes up and works as a regular homework desk when it's not in use--which is probably not very often. The console plays space-related sounds and has many lights, knobs and switches."

Design: Steampunk Lighting

Steampunk Lighting by Art Donovan

New York City based designer Art Donovan is author of The Art of Steampunk, a book on creating steampunk sculptures from upcycled junk. Donovan specializes in hand crafting custom lighting, and these are some examples of his best work.  Sadly, I think if I could make light fixtures like this, I'd need to buy a new house cool enough to install them in.

Design: Hotello

Hotello by Roberto De Luca and Antonio Scarponi

This odd little piece of luggage a portable space that contains everything necessary for a minimal room: a desk, a lamp, a stool, a shelf, and a locker. Hotello consists of a metal structure that supports double curtains (translucent and sound absorbant) as well as all the furniture needed to work and rest. It looks like something a cartoon character would pull out from behind his back when he needed to stop for the night in the middle of nowhere.

Forget about those bland Crate and Barrel coffee tables and prepare for the jump to lightspeed with this supremely cool hand-carved x-wing fighter coffee table. This one-of-a-kind table took Barry Shields six months to complete and costs more than Luke's human hand.

Design: Floppy Disk Table

Floppy Disk Table by Axel van Exel and Marian Neulant of Neulant van Exel
Available for purchase from Floppytable.com. US$930

Floppy Table is a coffee table designed in imitation of the classic 3.5″ floppy disk. What makes it so awesome is that they've cleverly re-designed the shutter to serve as a secret compartment. It's built for durability out of hot rolled steel and stainless steel.
