Illustrator Joey Spiotto has published a new picture book that re-imagines the nightmarish Xenomorph from the the Alien film franchise as a sweet and thoughtful BFF for Ripley.
"See a new, caring side to the legendary science fiction monster as he tends to Jonesy the cat, endeavours to keep his house cleaner than the Nostromo, and searches for his place on a cold, new, alien world: Earth. From facehuggers to feather dusters, discover how the perfect killing machine relaxes after a day of scaring space marines."

Illustration: The Star Trek Alphabet

My Star Trek Alphabet

Prints available for purchase from the author's website. US$5 - $25

Illustrator Carly Strickland has assembled what might be the nerdiest children's alphabet book ever. If I had a kid, it's room would be plastered with these prints... which may be part of the reason I don't have kids.  In the meantime, you need to check out Strickland's art Tumblr.  It's filled with her trek illustrations, and I can't wait to see what comes next.

Fresh Take: Max is Mad

Mad Max: Fury Road has been interpreted through cats, sketches from all manner of artists, and My Little Pony. So, it’s only fitting that someone would go the ironic-picture-book route. Tumblr artist cerigg took inspiraton from this tweet pointing out that Mad Max already sounds like the title of a children’s book. The result is quite a bit wordier than the movie, but hilarious in its own way—and makes us want to see Furiosa!

Illustration: Goodnight Westeros

Illustrations by Vicky Leta and Animation by Alisa Stern

Have you ever wondered what would happen if George R. R. Martin were to start writing children’s books?  Well, Mashable has.  It created a darker version of the classic bedtime story Goodnight Moon featuring Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice characters.

"Goodnight Westeros" creatively twists the simple tale into a grisly video, making it a hilarious, fascinating read for adults, but one that would probably also give actual children nightmares.
"If George R.R. Martin wrote books for children, it might turn out like a darker version of the classic book Goodnight Moon."

Posters: The Neverending Story

"The Neverending Story" by Marc Simonetti

This is a gorgeous poster for my favorite kid's books. I think Simonetti did a fantastic job capturing the wonder of the book in this poster. Honestly, I don't know why there aren't more fan tributes to this franchise.

Illustration: Fun with Kirk and Spock

Books available for purchase from Amazon. US$9.45

Robb Pearlman has written a child's reading book modeled after the old Dick and Jane readers that parodies Star Trek The Original series.  It’s clear from the few pages I've seen that it's the type of homage that only a true fan can write.
"See the Enterprise. See the Enterprise go boldly. Go Go Go, Enterprise! Go Boldly! Join Kirk and Spock as they go boldly where no parody has gone before!

This Prime Directive primer steps through The Guardian of Forever to a simpler time of reading, writing, and red shirts. Fun with Kirk and Spock will help cadets of all ages master the art of reading as their favorite Starfleet officers, Klingons, Romulans, Andorians, and Gorn beam down into exciting adventures."

"My journey begins on an old and dusty attic. A little boy unveiled a passage to another world and prepared his backpack. The moment is there – the moment of gathering courage and doing the first step."
The Wormworld Saga is a web comic and app that successfully raised $23,729 on Kickstarter.  It's an amazing comic featuring dream-like landscapes in vivid pallets.  Creator Daniel Lieske recently wrote on his blog about how the project helped generate interest from a private investor who offered to fund the whole project, however, he's chosen to post the entire series online for free.

Parents across the web are raving about how much their children love the series, but I admit, I'm a huge fan myself
