At Tabletop Whale, graphic designer and molecular biologist Eleanor Lutz showcases her scientific infographics, illustrations and drawings. Examples include virus trading cards, colorful butterflies of North America, immunology pop art and a user's guide to muscles.

Lutz's work has been featured all over the internet, including in an interview for Paste Magazine and an article for Wired.  She also has a Tumblr devoted to her work.  Check out some of the highlights from her galleries at the links below:

There are a lot of rockets inexplicably missing from this poster, but that doesn't detract from the beauty of it.  For some lively discussion on the topic, check out the Reddit thread.  And if anyone knows where to buy one of these, drop a link in the comments below, please!

Infographic: Frequently used Reddit Words

Most frequently used words in the top 1000 /r/Askreddit posts of 2015 by P_S_Laplace

"Used PRAW to grab the top 1000 posts from the past year. Then used the wordcloud library to create the visualization. Removed common words using the 'stopwords' feature, else you would likely see words like "what, when, how" etc.  [...]  Image with no stop words. I can only find "What" in the word cloud."

Infographic: Stormtrooper Costumes

"Star Wars Costume Evolution Stormtroopers"

A side-by-side comparison of the different armor designs worn by Stormtroopers through the years.  Imperial is always going to be my favorite, because that's what I grew up with, but The First Order design is pretty slick, too.

NOTE: The sabers are divided from Movie/Extended Universe based on IF THEY APPEARED IN THE FILMS, NOT who wields them. This is why Mara Skywalker is listed under Purple, despite her being in the Extended universe. Because in the EU, she wields a Purple Saber.

Infographic: Jason's Body Count

Andrew Barr of Canada’s newspaper National Post collaborated with illustrator Mike Faille to tally up the carnage from antagonist Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th slasher film polylogy which began in the 1980s. This amazing graphic depicts every which way a character has kicked the bucket in the hands of uber-bad-guy hockey-masked Jason, from strangulation to machete-induced amputation.
"Since 1981 Jason Voorhees has been waging a one-man war against the evils of premarital sex, drug use, being a teenager and not being Jason Voorhees."

Infographic: Star Wars Droids

Graphic designer Matthew Brown offers a little insight into the classifications of the various classes of Droids in the Star Wars universe.  I'm not entirely certain these are cannon, but hey, we're willing to play along.

Infographic: A Brief History of Robin

Source: DC Comics

As bleak as Gotham City can seem, it’s always had at least one ray of light—Robin. The Boy Wonder has long kept Batman from becoming TOO dark of a Dark Knight with his optimism, energy and youthful exuberance. He’s the epitome of the young comic book sidekick—the one by which all others are measured. Robin celebrates his 75th Anniversary this year, something that was commemorated at San Diego Comic-Con with the announcement of a new weekly series, a Robin-centered crossover event and the unveiling of a new graphic that charted the history of the character over Robin’s 75 years.

I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy Stormtrooper designs.  This infographic from HalloweenCostumes.com elaborates a bit on the design.

Infographic: Game Of Thrones in Real Life

This infographic by travel agency Lawrence of Morocco reveals the actual shooting locations used in the hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones. The main headquarters is at Paint Hall studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where most of the interior sets are housed; the better part of location shooting takes place in Northern Ireland, but many other European nations have been used as well.

Most locations have benefited from increased tourism due to the publicity, but not everyone has been pleased. It is rumored that Maltese officials complained that protected habitats were damaged during the filming, forcing future shooting to move to Croatia in season 2. Laws involving the transportation of animals have also required filming in the U.S., such as the season three episode "The Bear and the Maiden Fair, " and the season five episodes involving a Direwolf.

Posters: Valyrian Steel of Westeros

"The Valyrian Steel Swords of Westeros" by London-based Lorenzo Fruzza
Prints available for purchase from Etsy.
"Inspired by the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ books by G. R. R. Martin and the subsequent homage poster by Darrin Crescenzi, I was keen to create a visual catalogue of the Valyrian steel swords of Westeros.

Forged from a magical metal in the days of old Valyria, Valyrian steel swords are of the highest quality and extremely rare, which makes them some of the most sought after prizes in A Song of Ice and Fire. I wanted to illustrate the main* swords, referencing their last known wielders and each wielder’s house. Similar to Crescenzi’s poster, I intended the illustrations to feel modern and clean, juxtaposing the book’s grittiness.

Contrary to the description given in the books, I chose to make the blades almost luminous and glowing but retained the subtle waves in the steel and the red tinge within Oathkeeper and Widow’s Wail. The screen layer adds a varnish to the blades to give them a gloss shine.

I used a varsity-esque font for the sword names because I like the idea of them feeling like a sports team you might support. Everyone has a favourite character or house from the series, so that was something I wanted to bring through using a visual language that people would be familiar with but not necessarily expect. This is echoed in the use of only 2 ‘house colours’ to create each sword handle and name scroll."

Infographic: Disworld Reading Order Guide

In case, like me, you're thinking about how you should finally get around to reading that Discworld series everyone's always raving about, let me share with you this really useful chart that I found. Discworld is kind of a collection of loosely connected sub-series, which can be intimidating when you're standing in the aisle of a book store.  This chart very helpfully shows you where you can start reading the series.

Click through to download versions of the chart in other languages, including Spanish, Italian, and German.

Infographic: Planets in Foreign Languages

"The Solar System in Other Languages" by Manchester, England-based artist James Chapman
Prints available for purchase from Etsy. £6.00
"We are all on Planet Earth.  OR ARE WE?

If you speak English, then you're probably right. But different languages have different names for planets and some of them sound way more cool and sci-fi than the English ones.

When the aliens come, I'd rather introduce myself as being from Planet Ziemia because it sounds a lot more mysterious than regular boring "Earth"

Anyway, the same goes for the other planets and they're all adorably illustrated here."

Who cares what they call a Big Mac in France?  I wanna know what they call the Millennium Falcon ("Millénium Condor") so I can scope out geeky blogs in two languages.
