"Americans fighting over what is printed on a coffee cup designed by a
billion-dollar company to promote conformity sounds like cold German
satire: While the world rages on and problems like starvation, a massive refugee crisis,
and homelessness remain unfixed, people in America — including an
American presidential candidate — are arguing over a red beverage
container." Starbucks’s red cup controversy, explained.

"Stumbled upon this on Facebook today and couldn’t stop laughing."
Annnd the meme reaches its inevitable conclusion. I sincerely hope someone out there spins this off into a whole fanfiction series.

Mash-Up: My Neighbor Totoro
Mashing the iconic cover art for Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor, Totoro with other franchises has become a staple of meme culture. Here's a round-up of my favorite mash-ups from around the web.

Video: If Geek Girls Acted Like Geek Guys
BuzzFeed drives home a powerful point with this absurd "fake geek guys" video starring former Daily Dot writer Gaby Dunn. The video examines the idea of fake geek girls, only with the gender roles reversed. Instead of a geek guy demanding to see a girl’s nerd credentials, we see a female comic store employee asking if a guy is into comics because of his mom or girlfriend, and making weird comments about whether he cosplays “slutty Thor.”
In a way, the video is reassuring. The fake geek girl meme has become so widespread that the joke no longer requires explanation. Everyone on the net already recognizes the ridiculousness of this kind of cultural gatekeeping.

Batgirl takes the A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge

If you're reading this on the Internet, it's a safe bet that you’ve heard of the A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge, in which people challenged by friends dump buckets of cold water over their own heads to raise awareness of A.L.S., more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Over the past few weeks, the challenge has taken the internet by storm, but when the artists behind the new Batgirl became the most recent victims of the challenge, they decided to take it to a whole new level.
"All three of us were called out to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by Stella at Batgirl To Oracle. Since we all live in different countries we figured we’d try something different and get Batgirl to do it for us. ;) Please donate at the link, even only a few dollars. it’s for a good cause!"

When you absolutely must eat every f*cking chicken in the room.
I absolutely loved Sunday's season premiere of Game of Thrones. I just about peed my pants laughing at the best line of the night. Every since, the internet's been chicken-crazed. This design originally came from a TeeSprings t-shirt, but it was quickly appropriated by the internet at large. Now, there about half a dozen variations floating around.

“If you think the car’s bad, you should see what I did to my bathroom wallpaper. Isn’t it fun to do things your own way and just not give a f***? Try it, you’ll like it, I promise.”
