Infographic: Frequently used Reddit Words

Most frequently used words in the top 1000 /r/Askreddit posts of 2015 by P_S_Laplace

"Used PRAW to grab the top 1000 posts from the past year. Then used the wordcloud library to create the visualization. Removed common words using the 'stopwords' feature, else you would likely see words like "what, when, how" etc.  [...]  Image with no stop words. I can only find "What" in the word cloud."

Humor: TV Tropes Relationship Status

image

The range of options available under "Relationship Status" when you sign up for an account on TV Tropes is giggle inducing.  Thought I'd share it before some corporate bureaucrat paves over them.

Humor: Wikidiction

My apartment is not that clean.

God, do I know this feeling.  I once got so distracted by the fact that no one had bothered adding a release date to the Wikipedia entry on one of my favorite book series, that it was four hours before I realized that the only person who had ever edited that page was me.  I came away with deep knowledge of the history the city of Chicago, the a working understanding of the orders of medieval Catholic priests, and the ability to recognize thirty of the most common brick bonds.

Fresh Take: Map of the Internet

"Map of the Internet 1.0." is a map of the Internet in the style of antique cartography drawn by artist Jay Simon, based on the xkcd map of online communities.  It's a charming play on the notion of maps as power and propaganda.  Prints are available for purchase from Zazzle.

Lecture: The Innovation of Loneliness

This animated film addresses the issue of how social networks isolate us, increasing our loneliness, rather than making us more social. We are obsessed with the self promoting and we have a lot of friends that only create vague connections, superfluous chats with too many people instead deep connections. This work is based on the book Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less from Each Other by Sherry Turkle.
