Interior Design: Baby Mario Room

Baby Mario Room photographed by
[ Previous Video Game Interiors ]

Imgur user ThePunNun shared this gallery of photos in which his friend transformed the walls of his room into a level from one of the Baby Mario games.  The artist hand-mixed 80 cups of paint for the murals, which in and of itself indicates the level of effort that went into this room.  There's no mention of how long it took, but you can tell from the detail that went into the pencil layer that it was a work of love.
"This is a tale. The tale of a boy and a room.  Well, man and a room. A talented man and a room. An awesome, talented man and a room. [...]

This is my friend, Matt. I met him at work, at a low-paying job. He works his butt off, and he painted this room as a favor/a "thank you" for a friend. It's been a year or two, but seeing as I've just met him, I think this deserves love now. We all do every once in a while. He's a genuine person in a world of nots, and he did a phenomenal job with this art. (First time the bastard actually painted, too.) He also does tattoo art, short films, and a ton of other creative stuff."

Super Mario RPG: SNES Tribute - Created by Cassio Yoshiyaki

News: Is This New Nintendo Patent For The NX Controller?

News: Rise of the Tomb Raider did not crack the top 10 the month of November.

News: There are complaints about issues in Star Wars Battlefront‘s matchmaking, including mismatched teams and decreasing server numbers making it difficult to find matches. (I’ve definitely encountered the former, which can make multiplayer a lot less fun.) No news yet on if EA plans to release a patch for these problems.

Street Art: Game Boy Utility Box

Game Boy Utility Box by Grim Nyberg & Johan Karlgren

This sweet piece of street art transforms an eye sore of a utility box into a tribute to every eighties kid's favorite childhood toy.  Mario's a great choice, but I think I would have gone with Tetris, myself.

Interior Design: Super Mario World Nursery

Interior Design: Mario Kart 8 Nursery

Hardcore gaming habits come in all shapes and forms, but one of the greatest moments for an adult gamer is that moment when they get to share their love for a game with their children for the first time.  Whether that means dusting off the NES for an old school introduction to Super Mario Bros. or handing over the iPad, gaming culture has become a cherished tradition among nerds.  Over at Geeksmiting, one crafty father has taken the act of passing the torch one step further by building an incredible Mario Kart 8 themed nursery for his son Grant.

Under the YouTube channel Geeksmithing, super dad Wes Swain began constructing one of the more impressive gaming-centric rooms ever seen. Using a number of different tools of the trade, Swain manages to perfectly convey the look and feel of Mario Kart 8 into his young son’s room, almost certainly making gamers of any age jealous in the process.

For more information on the materials used in the project, check out GeekSmithing.com.
"After a year and a half of work, this puppy is finally done! After creating my Legend of Zelda and Yoshi's Island nurseries, I knew I had to up the ante just a bit. After searching online, there didn't seem to be any big attempts at a Mario Kart nursery out there, and with the newest version coming out, Mario Kart 8, that sparked my interest. I had a vision in my head and set out to make it happen."

Interior Design: Super Mario Shelves

Imgur user Drew recently made this neat set of shelves to hang in his daughter's bedroom.  They're spot on.
"Made some shelves for my daughter's Mario themed nursery. I think they turned out pretty nice!"

News: Why two Supreme Court justices played a violent video game to help decide a major case.  They couldn't remember which games they'd played, but they didn't really take the experience very well.  "There We Were, Killing Everybody," Justice Recalls.

AV Club’s Gameological Society got together to share their most surreal experiences with the games in honor of Super Mario Bros‘s 30th anniversary.

In light of Super Mario Bros‘s 30th anniversary, Nintendo's recently released game design software, Super Mario Maker has been under close scrutiny.  The Washington Post's  Michael Thomsen offered a critical review of the title, and on Tumblr, Carolyn Petit muses that what is missing from Mario Maker is a sense of continuity or a journey for the player.  But at Stay Classy, games scholar Todd Harper argues that to expect professional sophistication from Super Mario Maker is to miss the point.
