This video is part of a new public awareness campaign by the NGO Save the Children to raise awareness of the ongoing Syrian Civil War. It depicts a modern London girl suffering through the deprivations of war that might be experienced by a Syrian refugee. I sat through the entire video expecting a science fiction twist before
realizing that it was a real-world ad, but that doesn't lessen the power
of the video. The jarring juxtaposition of first world characters with the sort of situations we naïvely imagine are third-world situations is as effective in raising awareness of the plight of real children in war-torn countries as it is chilling.
