The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was the second film in Peter Jackson’s trilogy based on the not-really-that-long book by J.R.R. Tolkien. And while the visual effects in the film were stunning, it could’ve been an hour shorter without losing anything. Where did that scene of Smaug chasing the Dwarves and Bilbo through the gold furnaces come from, anyway? We gave it all a pass because we got to see Smaug in all his glory, but CinemaSins does the math objectively.
