"Cityscope" by German designer Marco Hemmerling
Marco Hemmerling's Cityscope installation in Cologne is an urban
kaleidoscope set in one of the city's busiest squares, between the
railway station and the majestic cathedral. The beveled, many-faceted
structure captures reflections of the surrounding facades. The outer
skin of the piece is covered in radiant foil, so the colours will
change, depending on light conditions. This crystal-like installation
encourages user interaction, as it is impossible to avoid touring around
it to take it in from different angles. The project was designed with
Rhinoceros software and the resulting jewel is in proportion to the
buildings that make up the setting.
