Video Round-Up: January 21, 2015

"We start the party out best of friends and you think the fun never ends. We used to be tight like brothers. By the end you want to murder each other."

Welcome to The Geek Art Gallery's daily Video Round-Up, in which we collect the geekiest videos from around the web each day for your enjoyment. Why slog through page after page of kitten and baby videos to find what you're looking for on video aggregators when you can cut straight to the chase here? Comedy sketches, countdowns, movie parodies, nerdy music, science in action, and supercuts - we've got it all!

In the latest animation from TED-Ed, educator Kareem Jarrah and Cincinnati production house Flaming Medusa Studios explain the role that the concepts of enthalpy and entropy play in endothermic and exothermic varieties of chemical reactions from rusting to explosions.
"You know how sometimes to you go to bake a cake, but your bananas have all gone rotten, your utensils have all been rusted, you trip and pour all of your baking soda into the vinegar jug and then the oven explodes? My friend, you and your chemical reactions have fallen victim to enthalpy and entropy."

Host Michael Aranda looks at what animals are likely to survive Earth’s current sixth mass extinction event in a recent episode of SciShow. Aranda suggests that it’s animals like pigeons and raccoons that have adapted to life in urban environments that stand the best chance of surviving the impact humans as a species have had on the Earth.
"Some scientists say we’re in the midst of Earth’s sixth mass-extinction event, caused entirely by us. But some animals have a knack for surviving in a human-dominated world. What’s their secret?"

YouTube user whysp80 created “Ode To The Picard Maneuver (With Data),” a fast-paced supercut of Star Trek: The Next Generation characters tugging their shirts in Captain Picard‘s signature gesture that many fans call the Picard Maneuver—a reference to a battle tactic in the series.
"I ended up losing the working file for this video in a hard drive crash a while back but did want to add in the shirt-tug performed by Data to the end since (as one commenter points out in the original vid) he starts and ends the video and would be great to see performing this same move! So, here it is in all its glory. Enjoy! ;)"

NicksplosionFX has created a great animated video in which the intergalactic Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett hunts down famous video game characters, including Mega Man, Mario and the Angry Birds.

"Intergalactic Bounty Hunter Boba Fett is Hired to Hunt Down Some of Your Favorite Videogame Characters!

Who’s PSYCHED for the new Star Wars… and Possibly a Boba Fett Spinoff Movie!?!?!"

Watch as two video game legends fight each other: Fallout’s Vault Boy versus Skyrim’s Dovahkiin!
"Yet another two video-game legends battle head-to-head: Fallout's Vault Boy versus Skyrim's Dovahkiin. Let the bloodshed begin!"

São Paulo, Brazil-based pixel artist and animator Mauri Helme has created a great 8-bit animated version of the first teaser trailer released for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
