Street Art: Drinking Water on the Streets

Over the last 30 years, over 50% of the public water fountains in Madrid have been dismantled, broken, or not safe to drink. In an effort to bring attention to this issue, an anonymous Spanish art group transformed four non-functioning public water fountains into glowing versions of their former, working selves. They placed more than 200 empty glass bottles of Infatrini, a formula given to underweight babies, in the fountains. The group collected the bottles over 4 months and tinted them blue to mimic water.

“We wanted to say that water is necessary for life and that the fountains that are used for drinking and refreshing ourselves seem much more necessary and beautiful to us than those which are merely ornamental.”
