"Amumu: The Curse of the Sad Mummy" is a short animated musical film. It tells the story of an adorably melancholy mummy from the League of Legends, but don't worry, even if you’re not familiar with the video game, it’s still great fun to watch the little cadaver wander through his strange world while the narrator sings his tragic tale.
"Riot Games was looking to come up with a piece that was musically driven and animated. Its dark, sad lyrics would narrate the back story of one of their existing League of Legends characters, Amumu. The intention was to contrast the sombre tone of the musical track with the funny, charming visuals of Amumu; he has a head that is far too large for his body and cloddish feet, which makes him a bit awkward. His lonely and emotional personality gave us a lot of scope to ply with when developing a storyline for this piece.
In terms of a visual style Riot were looking for something different to the typical 3D, action packed, realistically rendered short that is more typical for video games. They initially proposed a 2D “paper cut-out” style and we developed it from there."
