Short Film: Requiem for Romance

"Requiem for Romance" directed by JonNg

This beautifully animated short film mixes martial arts and romance, water ink backgrounds and modern film techniques.  If you're harboring any doubt as to how those elements mix, prepare to be made a believer.  Ng uses highly stylized kung fu to convey the story of a phone break-up and to explore the China's relationship with art. In a recent interview with Con Men, Ng revealed that he’s also working on a debut feature that will employ similar production techniques, so keep an eye out.
"In this “crouching love, hidden breakup” story, inspired by 50’s Shanghai water ink animation & kung fu films, themes of distance, tradition, art and longing dominate a telephonic conversation as a martial arts tango provides the visual backdrop."
