Tech: Robot Fighting YouTube Channel

As part of YouTube’s Geek Week, The Gadget Show host Jason Bradbury is launching "SupaRobotAttack," a YouTube channel dedicated to robot fighting, in partnership with the Shine Group-owned online video network ChannelFlip. Unlike previous attempts at robotic sports such as Robot Wars, this channel will feature robots programmed with with a wide variety of individual fighting styles including boxing, karate, and Mexican wrestling.

ChannelFlip creative director Justin Gayner has released a statement saying, "When Jason came to me with the idea, I thought he was either stark raving mad or that the idea would be impossible to pull off successfully.

"As it happens, Jason is incredibly web savvy and technically brilliant and the results are not only impressive but extraordinarily entertaining. ChannelFlip looks forwards to helping him broadcast SupaRobotAttack fighting events from Tokyo to Timbuktu."

Jason himself explained, "I was a huge Robot Wars fan and always wanted to be involved in whatever came next. I guess in a small way that’s what SupaRobotAttack is attempting to be: an evolution of what Robot Wars started.”

In describing the technology behind the robot power, Jason said, "SupaRobotAttack could not have happened before. It’s only recently that the robots have developed to a point where they can get into a proper brawl. And then there’s the entertainment factor: each robot needs to have a unique fighting style and that’s only possible due to recent advances in their speed and programming."

As a long-time fan of all things robotic and a long-time viewer of Robot Wars, I'm completely stoked about this new channel.  It's long past time robotic competitions had a home on YouTube!  Subscribe now!
