"Carmelo" Directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez
Fox released The Book of Life, one of
the most anticipated films of the Fall, last week, and, while the stylized animated
adventure was produced by super star director Guillermo del Toro, its director, Mexican creator Jorge Gutierrez, is a relative
unknown. Gutierrez is best known for the Nikelodeon series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, but here we can see that his flare for storytelling manifested much earlier.
"Carmelo" is an eight-minute short film produced by Gutierrez in 2000 during his time as a student at CalArts. It tells the story of a young boy who learns about his master matador father, Carmelo. Gutierrez
