Designer and space enthusiast Brad McNally had a dream, and he sent
that dream out into the world on Twitter: “I want to make an awesome
version of Comic Sans called Cosmic Sans.” People read this tweet and
got excited. So Brad’s wife (and owner of
Constellation & Co.) Sara McNally set out to plan this thing! We sent out a
call for entries and filled our roster in under 48 hours. We were inspired to organize this show by other rad collaborative projects like
The Everywhere Project,
The Momentus Project, and
50 and 50.
The
galaxy-wide opening
of Cosmic Sans took place on September 6, 2012 in Seattle, Washington.
The event was held during the Pioneer Square first Thursday art walk at
the
Design Commission Gallery. Each framed art print was sold via silent auction to benefit
826 Seattle,
a local non-profit that offers free tutoring, creative writing classes
and field trip opportunities for kids in Seattle. Their storefront, the
Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co.
was a perfect fit for our cosmic theme. The event had a great turnout
and we sold all 26 pieces and raised over $1,000 for the children of
Earth!
