Video: Thug Notes on Hunger Games

Once again, Thug Notes hits the nail on the head by pointing out themes you might otherwise have missed.

Video: Ghostbusters Honest Trailers

It's hard to mock a movie everyone loves, but somehow, the Screen Junkies do it again.  This time, they're commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the release of Ghostbusters.

Video: Armageddon Cinema Sins

This time, the guys at CinemaSins skewer Michael Bay's 1998 feature film Armageddon. It's funny how few rally to defend Bay's films in the YouTube comments, even when it's a movie there was still someone restraining him to a degree.

Video: Incredibles by Christopher Nolan

Director and film maker Christopher Nolan is best known for his dark action films such as Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, but what if he had tackled other super hero movies, like Pixar's The Incredibles?

Yeah, The Incredibles was great, but this looks awesome.

Short Film: Dust

"Dust" by Written and directed by Ben Ockrent & Jake Russell
Starring Alan Rickman, Jodie Whittaker & Lola Albert

I did a double take when I saw Alan Rickman's name on this short film. What's a big name Hollywood actor doing in a short film floating around the web? It turns out, he's acting the hell out of a role as a creepy stalker.

In Dust, Rickman plays a man who follows a young girl and her mother back to their house. What happens next puts a whole new twist on an old bedtime tale that you won't see coming. Rickman is his usual brilliant self, and the whole film exudes a silent tension that really sells the story without crossing the line into anything too intense for younger viewers.

Short Film: SURVIVE

Jon Chu’s production company offers second unit directors an opportunity to direct a short film of their own with one small catch.  They are only given a single day to prepare their shoot and a second day to film.  The results are surprisingly entertaining, given the constraints.

Survive is the story of three people on the run from a new breed of zombie.  When the trio stops for rest at a cabin, one of them draws the zombie horde.  That's when the action begins.
"The world has been taken over by a new breed of Zombies... A group of three which includes a little boy are runners, the last of the human race as they try to stay a step ahead and SURVIVE!

This was a John Chu project from his production company. The idea was to choose Second Unit Directors who were Stunt Coordinators and give them an opportunity to write and direct there own short film to match story with action... BUT they were only given one day prep and one day shoot to make it happen!"

Sweets: Steampunk Octopus Cake

"Steampunk is an aesthetic that is rooted in the industrial revolution. The genre includes a lot of mechanical elements, steam engines, gears, balloons, etc.. Awesome fun theme on a cake, it's so liberating o pastelligt! I also got the opportunity to try something I've long wanted to do: integrate LEDs into a cake."
