Icarus Down is a short film that plays out like a promo for a larger boxoffice blockbuster. The film tells the harrowing tale of a military escort vessel that crashes on an alien planet and the rising tensions among the ship's passengers in the aftermath of the crash.
The film evokes comparisons with the original Alien, both in atmosphere and cinematography. So much so that I spent most of my first viewing waiting for a facehugger to burst out of someone's chest. The film's one glaring failing is that it's simply too short, which is no failing at all for a short film designed to be a young filmmaker's calling card.
