Short Film: Francis

"Francis" directed by Richard Hickey from Not To Scale

"Francis" is a spooky campfire story written and read by Dave Eggers for the public radio program This American Life.  It is a suspense-laden tale of unexplained happenings on a lake in the middle of an Ontario nature preserve.  Brought to life by Not to Scale director Richard Hickey and a team of forty animators, this captivating short perfectly blends cutting edge animation techniques with traditional storytelling techniques.
"The story of ‘Francis’ came about interestingly from famed radio show 'This American Life'. Broadcaster Ira Glass asked 6 American writers to create a short story about Adventure. One ofthese stories written by novelist & screenwriter Dave Eggers, it was read on the show to much acclaim and praise., Richard worked with producer Kevin Batten & a team to turn the words into this short. He worked on the film tirelessly & had 40 people work on all elements of the animation. The film has been shown at Cannes Film Festival and Raindance."
