Mural: Darth Vader Tree House

Created for Powwowhawaii. Located in Hawaii.

This isn't Wooden Wave's only Star Wars mural by a long shot, but in my opinion, it's the best.  I'd love to see this design turned into a model.

Mural: Shattering Light Bulb

Shattering Light Bulb Mural by Onur
Created for the Mural Festival in Montreal, Canada

Onur is a Swiss-born artist best known for photorealistic murals and collages.  Many of his pieces incorporate ultra-violet paint that imbues his projects with a high-tech air.

In his latest series, the artist explores the impact of the present, stressful every-day life to the human psychology, in which he depicts objects like traffic lights, crossroads and garbage bags emerging from heads of an ordinary man.

In 2013, Onur created together with artist Wes21 a big mural at the 5 Pointz Building in New York City. In 2014 he participated in the Richmond Mural Project in Richmond,VA. He was part of one of the most famous campaigns for Volvo and he has also collaborated with German and rapper legend, Kool Savas.

Sweets: Adventure Time Cake Pops

"I created these fun Adventure Time cake pops for an international cake collaboration called Cakeflix. Check out some of the other amazing cakes on the facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/cakeflixcoll...

I started these cake pops with a batch of vanilla cake. After breaking it up into a fine crumb, I added about half a cup of Earl Grey White chocolate ganache. I formed the dough into balls and various shapes for the various characters. Using some melted chocolate, I added a stick to each one and chilled for just a couple of minutes.

I dipped each cake pop in its respective colour and then added facial details and hair using modelling chocolate.

I created this tutorial for you guys while I was making these cake pops in hope it might help you create your next cake pop project."

Sweets: Deadpool Rides A Unicorn

This incredible cake, created for the international Cake Con Collaboration features an adorable Deadpool riding a unicorn like the end credits of the feature film.
"Not only was the Deadpool movie made in Vancouver, but Ryan Renolds is from Vancouver, so Deadpool was the perfect comic character. The first time I saw the movie, I instantly wanted to make a deadpoool and unicorn cake, and I finally got to make it! He is a little raunchy and very humorous, but I think he has a sweet side too! He is a little banged up and dirty, but mostly all healed up and enjoying a ride through the clouds with his trusty friend the unicorn."

Sweets: Deadpool Cake

If this isn't the best superhero cake I've ever seen, it's in the top five. Not that I'm jealous.

Metalwork: Trash into Transformers

This video centers around a talented father and son team who build Transformers statues from scrap metal.  The video comes from Great Big Story and it's part of their "Passing The Torch" series.
"In 2010, Chinese farmer Yu Zhilin and his son Yu Lingyun opened up their own metalworking shop in the country's Hunan Province. Inspired by the futuristic robots from the movie “Transformers,” the pair began fashioning original statues from scrap metal. Their first design took about a month and a half to build, but they’ve since created an impressive array of statues, giving new life to discarded car parts along the way. It’s not just the success of their new business that makes this father-son duo happy; the craft itself has brought them closer together."

Illustration: Inside the Tree Fort

Check out this incredible cutaway illustration of the interior of Finn and Jake's tree fort from Adventure Time.  He includes a ridiculous amount of detail, introducing a whole new level of realism to the cartoon universe.  I’ll include the complete pictures below as well as some enlarged versions of certain sections so you can all admire it for yourself.  Degtyarev has larger versions on his ArtStation page, but I'm very sad to say that he doesn't offer any poster prints for purchase.  I'd certainly buy one if he did.
"If you ever wonder the structure of Finn and Jake’s house from Adventure Time, then here is the answer! The detailed cut-away illustration, showing living floors, secrets and abandoned areas. With lovely main characters hanging around."

Another gem from artist Brian Kesinger.  This time it's a Firefly/Rogue One Mash-Up. Apparently, a print of this Firefly and Rogue One mashup will be available in his Etsy store in July.

All Over the Map is a neat blog from the folks at National Geographic.

The “Andy’s Dad” theory from Toy Story has been floating around the internet for a while. Now, the full story of how the boy’s father fits into the movie’s world has been released, and oh wow is it ever sad.

The influential, instructional illustrator Ed Emberley is in his 80s and still drawing. He has a range of styles, from the Caldecott Medal-winning Drummer Hoff (1967) to his creatively die-cut Go Away, Big Green Monster (1992), and perhaps most memorably a whole range of drawing books, which generally start with the reminder that if you can draw these things → · U D Δ □ ⇝ you can draw all kinds of things. If you can't find his books, the EMBR Group has a blog of Ed Emberley's Drawing Pages.

Okay, I'm not the world's biggest Metal Gear Solid fan, but this model is damn impressive.

Lego Creations: Venator Mark III

Via: MOCpages

Even if I had the money for the pieces, I'd never have the talent to design a Lego model like this.  It's all I can do to assemble the more complex sets from the directions provided without swearing up a blue streak.  I do love to gaze upon the eyecandy of others' creations, though, and this is a beauty.  Follow the link for more in-depth descriptions.
"This is a theoretical version I created of the Venator Mark III Star Destroyer. There is a Mark II class on Wikipedia already, so I made this the Mark III version developed just before the Imperial Class Star Destroyer.

For those die hard Star Wars fans, this does not comply with the official lexicon. I was more interested in creating a hypothetic version of the Star Destroyer, which was created from my Star Destroyer and AT AT Walker sets. This version is 44 inches long, 28 inches wide and 17 inches tall. If the original Imperial Star Destroyer set was used as a comparative scale, the Venator Mark III Star Destroyer would be 1900 meters long, 1210 meters wide and 735 meters tall (with the landing gear extended). This makes it significantly larger than the standard Imperial Class Star Destroyer, and quite a bit bigger than the 1,137 meter long Venator Class Star Destroyer. I guess this would qualify as a super carrier."

Crafts: BioShock Little Sister Doll

Little Sister Doll by Kari Parham

Alright dolls freak me out enough to begin with and Little Sister is anything by cuddly to begin with, but Kari Parham has taken creepy dolls to a whole new level with with handmade Little Sister tribute inspired by BioShock.  Parharm has done an incredible job capturing the horror of Little Sister while still maintaining the "cute" element that makes your skin crawl in-game.  The final results are so good they look Photoshopped.
"The backdrop was made with foam board, poster board, hot glue, paint, and sheets of foam. It was made to come apart three walls and the floor. I just set the display in front of the TV to take a picture."

Featured Site: Colormind & Fontjoy

"Colormind is a color scheme generator that uses deep learning. It can learn color styles from photographs, movies, and popular art."
Colormind and Fontjoy are a new set of sites custom taylored to goose the creative juices of graphic designers.  Both sites are powered by "neural nets" developed by one Jack Qiao.  One suggests unique pairings of fonts for your typography project.  The other suggests unique palettes.  They a huge help when you're experiencing creative writer's block or just new to graphic design.

Colormind generates five-color palettes with the click of a mouse using data drawn from Adobe Color.  Meanwhile, FontJoy analyzes letterforms to "systematically find fonts that share similarities but contrast in a key way" to match typefaces.  Yes, you might know that using a serif for a header with sans serifs for a subhead creates an eye-drawing visual contrast, but FontJoy goes deeper than that.  Fonts  chosen by this site might share a weight, slant, or other quality that makes them the perfect pair.

Both Colormind and Fontjoy are free to use.  Of course, whether or not you find them useful is another question entirely.

Bob Dylan's Nobel Lecture is now online: "In a lot of ways, some of these same things have happened to you. You too have had drugs dropped into your wine. You too have shared a bed with the wrong woman. You too have been spellbound by magical voices, sweet voices with strange melodies. You too have come so far and have been so far blown back. And you’ve had close calls as well. You have angered people you should not have. And you too have rambled this country all around. And you’ve also felt that ill wind, the one that blows you no good. And that’s still not all of it."  Here's a great explanation of Why Bob Dylan Won The Nobel Prize.

7 Amazing Origami-Inspired Inventions

35 thoughts Trevor the toad might have had during Philosopher’s Stone

An Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Science in France, Francesco de Comité has been making 2D and 3D representations of mathematical concepts and objects.

Canadian artist Dave Delisle of Dave’s Geeky Ideas recently created an incredible two-person tent design concept based on a Federation shuttlecraft from Star Trek.
This is a two-man tent design that features an entrance at the back (just like the actual shuttlecraft). The tent stores in a carrying case that splits apart to become the thrusters. This started as a bunk bed design several months back, but I didn’t want to keep posting bed designs at the time, so I shelved it. Glad I could do something different for the shuttlecraft here.
