Installation: Hello World
Untitled is an enormous grid of 5,000 orange illuminated rocker switches. The piece was part of the Fünf Räume (five rooms) exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York City. The illuminated message is a nod to computer programming, an attempt to create a link to a foundation of modern technology that now seems out-dated. All I can think, though is that this would seriously be a rocking alternative to the sad little grease board I have hanging on my wall at home.

Short Film: Fantastic Flying Books
Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, "Morris Lessmore" is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation) award winning author/ illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a new narrative experience that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals. "Morris Lessmore" is old fashioned and cutting edge at the same time.
“The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” is one of five animated short films that will be considered for outstanding film achievements of 2011 in the 84th Academy Awards.

LEGO’s developmental department known as LEGO PMD have a new space to inspire their creative juices. The Rosan Bosch & Rune Fjord masterminded space is very much in line with the brand’s disposition as one of the world’s premiere toy companies with several opportunities for adults to reminisce in their childhood. A wide-open work space covers different points of interest whether it be a large metallic slide and massive display cabinets, to a peaceful bonsai garden and parts bin where children and adults alike can feel comfortable creating.

Installation: Cloud Cities
On exhibit at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin through February 19, 2012
Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno currently has his largest solo presentation to date installed at Berlin’s Hamburger Bahnhof. The incredible exhibition consist of twenty balloon structures suspended by complex webs that stretch across the massive space that used to be a train station. Each balloon houses its own ecosystem that all together, create a utopian garden. His installation invites visitors to move amongst them, with some making it possible to climb inside and float in space.
"Tomás Saraceno's installations shatter traditional concepts relating to place, time, gravity and traditional ideas as to what constitutes architecture. His works are utopian and invite the viewer to play a part in their impact on a particular space, as they reach up to the sky and down to the ground. The artist creates gardens that hang in the air and allow visitors to float in space, fulfilling a dream shared by all humankind. Saraceno draws inspiration from soap bubbles and the incredible strength and flexibility of spider webs."

Papercraft: Origami Masks
Paper artist Joel Cooper folds these astounding masks and tessellations from single pieces of paper. Given the right conditions I might be expected to fold a piece of paper in half, and on a good day even into fourths, but I simply can’t fathom the patience and understanding required to transform paper into three-dimensional objects like this. You can see more of his work on Flickr and even buy some of the pieces on Etsy.

Con: Unforgivably Vicious Emotional Damage -Artists are unforgiving bastards and will viciously tear your heart out. Breakups usually include personal possessions being hurled into the street, personal possessions being set on fire in the street, and personal possessions being defecated on, on fire, in the street. Also, Lets not forget the public displays of “fuck you” in the form of song, beat poem, blog post, etc. depending on the artist’s medium.
