Quick Pic: Parkland High School
Parkland High School
Via: Reddit
Parkland High School in Allentown Pennsylvania bears an odd resemblance to Han Solo's smuggling ship. Officials deny that this is anything more than a coincidence, but their piddling attempts at Jedi mind tricks will not work on us. We know a YT-1300 light freighter when we see one.
Opened in 1999, the school got off to a rough start. The first three or four graduating classes were held back until someone finally found a hydrospanner and got the Commencement Drive back in working order. Now, you can matriculate in less than twelve parsecs!

Let's add some monsters to thrift store paintings! Artists Chris McMahon and Thryza Segal decided to inject a little fun into these discarded works and give them a second life by adding monsters to the scenic landscapes.

Lego Creation: The Discovery
A 1:60 scale LEGO model of the Discovery, from the movie 2001: A Space
Odyssey.
This has always been one of my favourite science fictions vessels, and way back in 2003 I set about to build a LEGO version of it. The making of it is a long and mostly dull tale that has been told before (see BrickJournal #1), and that I don't really remember anyway. It's now been over 8 years since I completed it. Time to finally retire it and retrieve all those wonderful old grey pieces.
I've always had an LDraw version of it available on my website, and over the years I've actually heard from a few people that have gone through the effort of building it. I finally (that's right, 8 years later) got around to making step by step PDF instructions for it. No, I don't expect anyone will actually use them, but it was an interesting test for some software I've been working on, and now they exist.
PDF instructions, parts list and LDraw file can be found at www.truedimensions.com. Good luck sourcing all the pieces. Additional pictures can also be found on Brickshelf

Installation: Tube
"Tube" by Žilvinas Kempinas, 2009
On exhibit at the Lithuanian Pavilion of Scuola Grande della Misericordia
in Cannaregio, Venice, Italy for the 53rd Venice Biennale
Tube is a work that creates a dramatic enclosed walkway over 80 feet long from stretched lengths of old VHS videotape. The work is one of the latest in a series employing Kempinas’ signature medium of unspooled magnetic tape, works that have inventively exploited the strength and ultra-lightweight nature of tape to create beguiling and seemingly contradictory physical spectacles that skillfully subvert relationships with architecture, form, and space.
Zilvinas was chosen to represent Lithuania by an independent committee from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture and presented this installation at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, a majestic Renaissance building designed by architect Jacopo Sansovino in the 16th century
