Metalwork: Trash into Transformers

This video centers around a talented father and son team who build Transformers statues from scrap metal.  The video comes from Great Big Story and it's part of their "Passing The Torch" series.
"In 2010, Chinese farmer Yu Zhilin and his son Yu Lingyun opened up their own metalworking shop in the country's Hunan Province. Inspired by the futuristic robots from the movie “Transformers,” the pair began fashioning original statues from scrap metal. Their first design took about a month and a half to build, but they’ve since created an impressive array of statues, giving new life to discarded car parts along the way. It’s not just the success of their new business that makes this father-son duo happy; the craft itself has brought them closer together."

Toys: TARDIS Prime

What if the Matrix of Leadership turned out to actually be The Eye of Harmony?  Andrew Lindsey was inspired by the Jason Casteel TARDIS Prime sold by GraphicLab earlier this year to create a functional mash-up of the TARDIS and Optimus Prime using a 3D printer.  The results are glorious.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for someone to eventually create a Dalek / Soundwave mash-up based of foureyedesign's design.

Sculpture: Giant Transformers

Transformer by Yu Zhilin

Giant Transformer Sculptures by China-based Yu Zhilin and Lu Yingyun

In the Hunan Province, this Chinese farmer and his son have built a US$160,000 a year business for themselves building giant "Transformer" robot sculptures from scrap metal.

It took three years to build that first replica in a makeshift workshop from images downloaded from the Internet. Since then, however, he and son Lu Yingyun have refined the process, creating increasingly larger statues at a steady pace.  More photos of the father and son’s models and build process are available to view on the Sina website.

Cards: Transformer Valentines

"Last year my son asked me for Star Wars valentines... this year it is Transformers. Here are 3 valentines designed to be cut down the middle showcasing some classic Generation 1 Transformers I grew up with and that my son should know. Enjoy. If you would also like to use them, feel free as long as you are giving them away. These are not for resale. And if you do use them please let me know... or donate a little to me (I never mind donations). Happy Valentines Day."

Crafts: St. Optimus of Prime

[ Previously: Crafts: SAGA Stained Glass ]
Via: Reddit

This stunning stained glass window featuring Optimus Prime was created by Transformers fan Craig Kovatch, who got his inspiration from this piece created by Ninjaink.

Kovatch had never worked with stained glass before, so he took some local classes to learn how. He spent seventy hours on this impressive project, which began with creating a paper template, then carefully cutting 121 pieces of glass before soldering it all together.

Click here for step-by-step process photos to get a better idea of just how much work went into this geektastic project.  Kovatch did a great job documenting his process, and he's taking questions on Reddit.

"i was infatuated with all things giant and robotic from a very young age, so when transformers came along in 1984, this fourth grader's mind nearly imploded. countless adventures that centered around a battered bumblebee's quest to rid my backyard of starscream once and for all would serve to spark my imagination for a lifetime. i feel very fortunate to once again be able to play in a universe that inspired me so many years ago."

Fresh Take: If They Could Transform

Prints available for purchase from StoreEnvy.
Transformers were my favorite toys as a kid... and a teen... and that week after I found them again while moving into my first apartment.  However, Hasbro totally missed the bus on this one.  They should have followed in Lego's footsteps by licensing other franchises for their toy line.  I would have gone nuts over a Ghostbusters-themed Tranformer.

Video: Transformers Transforming

Three movies worth of transformations in 1080p! That's right. The entire ten minutes of Michael Bay's trilogy worth watching. You never need to watch them on late night cable again.
