Short Film: THE SHAMAN

"THE SHAMAN"is an epic short sci-fi film that's been making a splash.  The trailer garnered over four million hits on YouTube prior to its premiere at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.  Far from being just another proof-of-concept piece, "The Shaman" is an ambitious short that packs the impact and aesthetics of a Hollywood blockbuster into just seventeen minutes.
"The dark year 2204, in a world that has seen 73 years of continuous war. Recently mankind re-discovered the arts of Shamanism. The Shaman’s school of thought believes that every person or object has a soul. During battle Shamans step over into the Netherworld to find and convert the souls of their enemies’ giant battle machines. This tactic enables a single man to overcome an invincibly seeming steel monster.

This is the story of Joshua, a Shaman, who is sent on a mission to convert the soul of a giant battle colossus. He does not yet know that the soul is prepared for his coming and that the deadly psychological soul-to-soul confrontation in the Netherworld will be on eye level."

Short Film: Post-Human

"Post-Human" Written & Directed by David Simpson for Post-Human Media

Post-Human is a scifi proof-of-concept based on the bestselling series of novels by David Simpson. Filmed over three hours by a crew of three, the short depicts the opening of Post-Human, giving viewers a taste of a world of immortality, onboard mental computers, nanotechnology, and even flight.  The concept was to try to replicate what a full-length feature would look and feel like by adapting the opening of Post-Human, right up to what would be the opening credits.

Short Film: Amendment 10/60

"Amendment 10/60" written and directed by Akis Polizos

"Amendment 10/60" is a short science fiction film about a dystopian scenario on par with Atwood's Handmaiden's Tale or Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. The film is set in an alternate history in which scientists are being hunted down and killed.
"In a post nuclear era where owning books is a felony and the intellectual community is persecuted, a group of scientists is trying in vain to find a way to save the world. A Professor's assistant will be called upon to make the most difficult decision of his life.

The story takes place in a world a little different from our own; an alternative reality. In this parallel universe history took a different course."

"EXIT PLAN is a short, character driven, sci-fi film about an exile called Adam. The story focuses on Adam, a man trapped in the slums of this dark future. As the rebels plot against the elite known as The Order, Adam is left stuck in the middle accompanied by his only companion, a robotic helper called iO. After discovering that the Earth will soon be destroyed by a cosmic natural disaster, Adam has to find a way off the planet."

Short Film: New

"New" Written and directed by John Harden

"New" is a short science fiction film about a man who is revived from cryogenic storage decades after dying of cancer.  He wakes in a younger body and is re-united with his wife in a bright utopian future, and together, they must come to terms with their new lives.

I spent most of the film waiting in vein for its bright shiny optimism to be pulled back to reveal a dark plot twist, but this isn't a Twilight Zone imitator.  It's a film that examines the emotional ramifications of futureshock.

Short Film: At The End

When a supernova threatens the destruction of Earth, humanity is presented with a choice, slavery or death.  The story that follows is an extremely well-shot short film interspersed with some of the most gorgeous special effects I've ever seen in a short film.
"Earth’s days are numbered when a nearby star goes supernova. Seizing the opportunity, an alien race has offered humanity a deal: Be our slaves or be left to die. As one couple struggles toward the last escaping ship, they grapple with the cost of sacrificing their freedom for their survival."

Short Film: Ayamé

"Ayamé" Director by Conor Maloney
Written by Steve Tully

Conor Maloney put together this awesome proof of concept short film after his initial concept proved to be too big to fit his budget.  Somehow, he still managed to get the voice of John Hurt, though, which tells me that this guy's got ambition enough to guarantee we'll be seeing his work again soon.
An impending disaster looms. Facing total extinction, a military operation turns to the stars in order to relocate the entire human race. During the exodus, one man is sent to rescue his former comrade after she mysteriously disappears while executing a covert operation off world."
