Interior Design: Pac-Man Floors

Ground Kontrol Arcade is one of those landmarks that makes Portland, Oregon such a unique place to live.  When Jessica Helgerson Interior Design was recently contracted to redesign the arcade's interior, they knew they were going to need some incredible retro game features.  One very nice touch was this excellent pair of matching Pac-Man mosaic tile floors in the restrooms.  There's Ms. Pac-Man in the women's restroom and Pac-Man in the men's.

Tutorial: How to make Pacman Plushies

Paul Mason demonstrates how to make Pacman and Ghost plush toys with which to stage your own live-action arcade games.  To start, just download this simple sewing pattern as a PDF file from his site.
"They’re both pretty straight forward as far as sewing projects go. Really they’re both a couple of stuffed balls with some eyes. Of course, just because the idea’s simple, doesn’t always mean that I’ll get it right the first time. The first pacman I made looked like it had had a stroke, and the first ghost I made ended up looking more like a bullet than a ghost. But I found, and I think you’ll also find that the modifications I’ve made to both will get you a super cute set of your own plushies."

Video: Post-It Arcade Animation

"This stop motion tribute to my 2 favorite old school arcade games is based on actual recorded game footage. The recordings were printed out, one frame at a time, and transferred by hand to various walls around my office floor using thousands of Post-It Notes. The process consumed weekends and holidays for the past 11 months. Changing background scenery was masked out and replaced with 1 consistent frame throughout the animation, producing an eerie stillness amid the moving images on the walls."

James Groccia is a ten-year old with Asperger syndrome and self-describes at the "most loyal Lego fan". He is involved in a Lego playgroup to help with developing his social skills. After spending two years saving for his dream set, he was disappointed to discover that it was no longer in production and was priced beyond what he could afford on the secondary market. He decided to ask Lego for help. Lego responded.

Original concept art from Firefly, Angel, Dr. Horrible and The Cabin in the Woods is up for auction. These are by Shawna Trpcic and provide a unique insight into the shows and the movie (especially the drawing of Joss as Badger).

Swords & Stitches is a new D.I.Y. segment from Dodger Leigh of PressHeart2Continue.  It looks like it's largely going to focus on cloth-based crafts, but it's still an entertaining watch.

Note: I've been searching for someone to credit for the Pac-Man cross-stitch pattern above without luck.  This image is all over Pinterest and Tumblr and any number of image aggregators, but no one credits the source.  I find that extremely irritating.  If you know where this came from, please drop me a comment.

Here’s an exhibition entitled “Built Drawings.” All of the items are constructed from mechanical pencil lead refills.

This is truly a marvelous tribute to the historic victory of Scandinavia over a single-minded invading force. It’s said volunteers in the army gave their superiors a coin or token for the honor of fighting.

And we finish with artist Raven Mimura, who’s not only a delight to attend a convention with, his work is often a “portal” into the blending of genres. He also wears some of the most impressive boots I’ve ever seen.
