Crafts: The One Ring Firering
Prints available for purchase from Etsy. US$500
One fire pit to rule them all! Or, at least, there was only one. Now it's gone. One firepit to rule them all, now in the hands of some lucky Esy customer. Someone seriously needs to manufacture these en masse.
"The ring is 26 inches in diameter and uses 16 gauge steel with a 12 gauge steel bottom. Then finished with a high temp black paint. The great Smaug himself would struggle burning through it!"

Short Film: Shadow of Mordor
"Shadow of Mordor" directed and written by Sam Gorski and Niko Pueringer of CorridorDigital
The video effects wizards over at Corridor Digital are no stranger to making awesome video game tie-ins. They’ve already created short films based on The Legend of Zelda, Half-Life, and Team Fortress 2 on their popular YouTube channel.
This time around, they’re tackling Tolkien in things in an orc-ier direction with a Middle-Earth inspired video entitled "Shadow of Mordor" based on the upcoming Middle-Earth video game of the same name from Monolith Studios. It was directed and written by Sam Gorski and Niko Pueringer.
The production value of this video game inspired action short is insane. It’s just a YouTube project, but Gorski and Pueringer nail the look of the orcs using a mix of practical makeup and VFX wizardry.
The short film tells the story of Krimp the Orc, who is tasked with making up for his failures by his Orc Chieftain. Unfortunately for Krimp, he runs into Talion, the main protagonist of the game this short is based on, and he gets up close and personal with his Wraith powers. You can watch the full video above, so carve out eight minutes for yourself and enjoy another superb video game in real life bit courtesy of YouTube and its stable of expert creators. You can check out a behind the scenes video after the break.

Motivational Poster: Leveling Up
Welcome to a new feature that I would like to call “Motivational Monday.” Each week, I'll post a geekcentric motivation poster to help you get your week jump started.
To start off, I'll be cross-posting some of the posters from my old blog, The Great Geek Manual. This is one of the very first motivational posters I ever made, back when motivational posters were still novel. Seven years later, it still makes me laugh.

Posters: Hobbit 75th Anniversary
"This was just a book cover assignment for school, but for me it meant a lot more.
This new curvalinear style you've seen me doing was originally inspired by several things, most importantly this painting by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Hobbit is probably my favorite story of all time. and has been extremely inspiring and influential to my work. So here is what I think would be an awesome cover to celebrate the 75th anniversary of this epic tale."

A Bunch of Robots Are Roaming Around the Tate Gallery at Night
Team Cul De Sac is offering to take any original drawings made of Robin Williams and auction them to benefit Parkinson's.
This is a raptor bicycle designed by Norwegian artist Markus Moestue. It may be terrifying, but I'll reserve my praise for after it can open doors.
While it's not tied into a charity and touches the ongoing discussion of mental health issues caused by Williams' suicide only in an oblique sense, this gallery of illustrators and cartoonists drawing Williams might be worth a peek if you're interested.
