Humor: For the Show

"For the Show" by @SuperToledo

Every time I read a story about George R.R. Martin doing something other than writing, I stab him in the back in my mind.

Quick Pic: Iron Throne of Bats

George R.R. Martin at last weekend's Direwolves (Staten Island Yankees) Game

This past weekend, the Starks and the Lannisters battled it out.  That is, the Staten Island Direwolves and the Lannister Lions.  Two of New York City’s minor league baseball teams indulged in some cosplay to honor writing legend George R.R. Martin, who, as it turns out, is an avid baseball fan.  The Song of Ice and Fire author tweeted this photo sitting on an Iron Throne made entirely of baseball bats; plus, he brought his a direwolf an arctic wolf named Flurry!

Check out Vulture’s full account of the event.

Graphic Design: Modern Game of Thrones News

Imagine if Game of Thrones were re-shot in the style of NBC's Kings.  Classical plot, modern sensibilities.  That would be a show worth paying admission for.

What if the houses of Westeros were competing corporations in a dystopia future instead of medieval aristocracy?  Their branding might look a little something like this.

Sweets: House Stark Cake

"Birthday Cake The Girlfriend Made" (House Stark Cake)
Photographed by Unluckie

I've always said that cakes in my house are a lot like the Stark family.  They get cut up a whole lot sooner than you'd expect, and the pieces all end up missing before you know it.

Video: All PIXELS must DIE

A compilation of some of the most shocking deaths in the Game of Thrones series, all in pixel art!

Video: Game of Thrones Intro

Vocals by Pat Cassels

s a part of CollegeHumor’s second episode of their Game of Thrones Wish-Fulfillment series, animators Bill Bergen and Michael Cisneros teamed up to make a new animated version of the Game of Thrones intro with real board games. The pyramids of Meereen are brought to life with Jenga pieces, the game of Monopoly makes up the Night’s Watch‘s colossal Wall, and more. CollegeHumor writer and performer Pat Cassels also sang a beautiful acapella rendition of the Game of Thrones theme song that goes along beautifully with Bergen and Cisneros’ animation.

Crafts: Stained Glass Targaryen Sigil

Dustin promises more photos upon completion, so stay tuned.

Crafts: Stained Glass Direwolf

I love the colors in this piece.  The creator says in the thread that he'll be selling similar items on Etsy soon, but he didn't link to a store.  I'll be checking the thread again in a few weeks for updates, because at the right price, one of these would look good in my house.

I read in a thread on Reddit that this stained glass piece sold on Etsy for $65 and its creator basically made no profit. Personally, I think I would have priced it much higher. Those glass beer advertisements you see in hipster pubs can go for as much as $500, and not even hipsters aren't as fanatical as Game of Thrones fans.

Fresh Take: Game of Thrones Pin-Ups

Game of Thrones Pin-Ups by Andrew Tarusov

Images available for download from Patreon.

Considering that Game of Thrones is one of the most consistently raunchy shows on television, the fan art that floods the internet is surprisingly tame.  That's why I was delighted when I came across this series of classically drawn pin-up girls featuring the ladies of Game of Thrones.

Infographic: Game Of Thrones in Real Life

This infographic by travel agency Lawrence of Morocco reveals the actual shooting locations used in the hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones. The main headquarters is at Paint Hall studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where most of the interior sets are housed; the better part of location shooting takes place in Northern Ireland, but many other European nations have been used as well.

Most locations have benefited from increased tourism due to the publicity, but not everyone has been pleased. It is rumored that Maltese officials complained that protected habitats were damaged during the filming, forcing future shooting to move to Croatia in season 2. Laws involving the transportation of animals have also required filming in the U.S., such as the season three episode "The Bear and the Maiden Fair, " and the season five episodes involving a Direwolf.

"In 2010, I fell in love with crochet and the Japanese technique amigurumi and I have been crocheting ever since. I first saw a little amigurumi chick on a popular portfolio website and fell in love with it – How can I make one of my very own? Soon enough, I had a crochet hook in my hand and I started learning the technique from on-line sites.

I am usually inspired by famous and beloved characters in cartoons, T.V. shows, animations, but I also love to experiment with my own ideas and bring them to “life”. I mostly love crocheting little characters, but I occasionally make accesiories of all kinds, but with a cute twist."
