Video: Spirited Away in Minecraft

Alan Becker is currently working to recreate the setting of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away in Minecraft.  So far, he's nearly completed the bath house, the ghost town, and the areas in between.  Minecraft players can download the map to explore at the Spirited Away Minecraft Recreation website.  The whole thing makes me wish you could play laser tag inside Minecraft.
"This is a tour of my Spirited Away world in Minecraft. It is only 80% finished, but before I post videos about working on it, I need to show what I've done so far!"

If you’ve never seen Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films, Australia company Madman Entertainment has created an impressive primer.

Humor: Cards Against Gallifrey

That's right, it's a dirty Doctor Who party game, and about damn time.  Personally, I would gone with "Cards against Who-manity," but in any case, I think that we can all agree that this is clearly the parody that's "bigger on the inside."  Download the whole deck from DropCanvas.

"The comedy group I perform with does a comedy game show based version of CAH at conventions in the Pacific Northwest. We recently did a playing of this at a Doctor Who con and made a special set that we have available for download for free. It's 72 white cards and 27 Black cards. Thanks!"

Humor: Palantir

Palantir by Scott Maynard

"I like to imagine a modern day Sauron, sitting at his PC, sipping some Mountain Dew and laughing menacingly as he monitors his botnet from a comfortable slouch. Evil."

Photography: Skull Camera

A functional camera constructed from a skull.

Designed to study the beauty of decay, the homemade 4”x5” camera  is built from aluminum, titanium, brass, silver, gem stones, and the 150 year-old skull of a thirteen year old girl.  Light enters through the "third eye," exposing the film in the middle of the skull.  It's either grisly or beautiful, but the debate over which is what art's all about.

Event: Terra Incognita
