Street Art: Terry Pratchett Murals
London Sir Terry Pratchett Mural by Dr Zadok and Jim Vision
Source: The Telegraph
Painted memorials to the fantasy author, who died earlier this year, have appeared in Bristol and London,
This East End mural was created by street artists (who The Telegraph calls "muralists") Dr Zadok and Jim Vision. It's located on Code Street, near to where Brick Lane meets Sclater Street, and features author Terry Pratchett, along with some of his best known characters, including Death, Binky, Rincewind, A’Tuin, the Death of Rats, and Albert. You can check out a progress picture that was tweeted last week.
It's a fantastic tribute, especially considering that Pratchett was notably pro-graffiti, once being quoted as saying, "You ignore graffiti at your peril. It's the heartbeat of a city. It's the voice of the voiceless."

Project: Ikea Print Presented as Fine Art
The Amsterdam-based group Lifehunters recently played a prank that involved exhibiting a €10 print purchased from Ikea in the Museum Arnhem in an attempt to pass it off as a museum-quality art. They then asks an assortment of "art experts" are
asked to assess the piece, after carefully implying that they were going to be shown something special.
As you might guess, the so-called experts fell hook, line, and sinker. Of course, the print itself is actually pretty cool. It was created by a pair of Swiss street artists, Christian Rebecchi and Pablo Togni, who collaborate as NEVERCREW. (We've previously featured some of their work.) It's just not hobnobbing with champagne cool.
Personally, I think I'd take the print over most of the things I see hanging in the background of the video, but the point that Lifehunters is making is about how the value of art is entirely dependent on perception.

Street Art: Lucasfilm Sidewalk Art Fest
Last September, employees from Lucasfilm, ILM, and other tenants of the
Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco took to the campus
sidewalks with chalk for the Lucasfilm Sidewalk Art Festival 2014, an
annual event which attracts teams of 2-4 members competing for prizes
and the glory of out-chalking their colleagues. The contest often
inspires a bounty hunter’s haul of Star Wars-related artwork, and last year’s event was no
exception. The Calvin and Hobbes piece was a particular favorite of mine. Read more about the festival at the Official Star Wars Tumblr.

Street Art: JPS
Street Art by UK-based JPS
Here are some of my favorite pieces by UK street artist JPS who is best known for creating small-scale stencil street art in urban areas. Most of his work references pop culture icons and interacts with its environment. JPS was recently named best alternative artist by Bizarre magazine. You can see more over on his Facebook page.

Street Art: Minesweeper
Minesweeper Street Art by Oakoak
Oakoak is a very popular French street artist. His blog contains a great deal of very creative street art, most of which very playfully interact with the urban environments in which they're found. This piece is part of a series that OaKoAk calls "Life is a game."

Projects: LoTR Subway Notices
PUCK Middle Earth Subway (South bound 1 train, Car#2210)
Artist William Puck of Puckworks creates Lord of the Rings-inspired notices and covertly hangs them in the New York Subway. The MTA is not amused, apparently, but if you're lucky you'll find your very own MiddleEarthCard. You can see more of his work on Instagram.

Street Art: Darling Look
"Darling Look" by Mobstr
Local residents woke up to a new mural by Mobstr this morning, paying direct homage to Banksy’s Slave Labour, which was removed from the same Poundland wall in July 2013. This latest work is a precurser to the Sex Drugs and Painting Walls Canvases show, opening May 15th 2014 at the Old Truman Brewery, in London’s East End.

Street Art: Galactic Murals
Galactic Murals by Ben Janik
Photographed by Nils Thorsen and Ben Janik in San Francisco, California
I didn't even know galactic murals were a thing an hour ago, and I'm already convinced that there aren't enough of them in the world.
"My typical graffiti style art didn’t seem to fit the wall, so I decided to go with space!" Janik told Gizmodo.
The idea caught on. Janik took the idea seriously and worked on a photo-realistic effect. "I use diagrams and a grid to lay out exact star formations for places like the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the Moon," says the artist. "There are now space murals in Chicago, Tampa, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Milwaukee."
