Fan Art: Rocket and Groot

We are Groot.

So, I got Guardians of the Galaxy for Blu-Ray for Christmas, and, in the past month, I think that I've watched it at least twenty times.  It's surprisingly re-watchable, more than any other title my collection, with the exception of The Matrix, which I once left playing on a loop for two months straight because I didn't have cable or internet or a car and I was going a little stir crazy.

My point here is that despite seeing this movie time and time again, the ending never fails to leave a Groot-shaped hole in my heart.  I'm desperate for the big guy to get back into the action in the sequel.  In the mean time, I thought I'd celebrate the fact that I've own this amazing movie for a month now with a round-up of the best Groot and Rocket fan art on the web.

Mash-Up: Iron Mandalorian

"Iron Mandalorian" by Toronto, Canada-based Marco D'Alfonso
Created for Comicbookresources.com's The Line it is Drawn week 222.

Artist Marco D'Alfonso created this badass piece of art that mashes together Iron Man and Boba Fett. It's a very cool re-imagining of the classic cover for Tales of Suspense #39 featuring Iron Man. I've included the original cover art below so that you can compare the two.

Juliet Kahn isn't impressed by a black Captain America or a female Thor and wants the comics industry to move beyond such gimmicks and promote real change.  "This was not built to last, and as such, these are not changes that disrupt business as usual. The most bigoted fan can go about their Cap- and Thor-loving life largely untroubled by these events, save for a little message board mayhem, and thus these are not changes I care about. Because that’s a large part of the point of writing characters who aren’t straight white dudes: disruption. Making change that cannot be ignored by those who wish they could."

Fresh Take: No Strings

"No Strings" by Joe Galvan

All I could think when I saw the trailer was, "God damn it, Disney, you've gone too far this time." I mean seriously. Buying Marvel just to revamp interest in Pinocchio? The whole thing smacks of desperation to me.
"My reaction drawing after seeing the trailer last night. Hope you enjoy."
