Cards: Fandom Christmas Paintings

"Hobbit Christmas Card" by Russia-based Lena (Nokeek)
Prints available for purchase from RedBubble.

Lena has created an absolutely gob-smacking assortment of Christmas cards featuring gorgeous canvas painting of your favorite fandoms decked out in holiday motifs.  My favorite is the TARDIS wrapped in the Fourth doctor's scarf, but the portrait of Bilbo's front door hung with a wreath lends me a whole new appreciation for those round Hobbit doors.

Video: Hobbit: The Complete Journey

L.A.-based editor Joel Walden wanted to know what a trailer for The Hobbit might have looked like, had Peter Jackson's trilogy been released as a single film. The result, which Walden calls "The Hobbit: The Complete Journey," is pretty excellent.
"With Peter Jackson’s final chapter in the ‘Middle Earth Saga’, 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' hitting theatres worldwide next week, I thought it would be fun to create a trailer that promotes his cinematic retelling of ‘The Hobbit’ as a single epic piece."

Sweets: Lord of the Rings Cookies

I'm not entirely sure that I'd want to feed my wedding guests little Eye of Saurons, but hey, it takes all types. Sweet&Geek made these cookies as wedding favors for a friend. They also include the door of Moria, the coat of arms of Gonor, the leaves of Lorien, and the publishing imprint of J.R.R. Tolkien enclosed in the script of the One Ring. Ironically, the one ring itself isn't represented, which is a little ironic, given the occasion.

On her blog, which definitely deserves a bookmark, Sweet&Geek goes into detail about how she got the cookies so shiny and how she managed to cram so much detail onto the door of Moria.

Music Video: The Last Goodbye

"The Last Goodbye" (The Battle of the Five Armies) by MOVIES Coming Soon

Scottish actor Billy Boyd is best known for playing  Peregrin “Pippin” Took in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but he’s also a musician.  His latest song, “The Last Goodbye,” has been selected to play over the end credits of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. The official video for the song has been made available online, and features quite a bit of footage from the upcoming conclusion of The Hobbit trilogy in addition to Boyd’s musical farewell to the world of Middle-earth.

The video was posted to YouTube by WaterTower Music, the Warner Bros. music label that will release the official soundtrack to The Battle Of Five Armies next month, just ahead of the film’s release December 17th.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Boyd discussed the song:
"We had to get the song just right, to send the audience out of the movie theater in the most perfect way we could. But I don't think it was until I was sitting on the long flight down to New Zealand that I started to really think about what the song would be. [...]

After seeing the film, I went to my room and I started to put down some ideas, and along with Fran and Philippa, we started to sculpt the song we thought the movie needed. A lot of ideas took us to dead ends or we found the tone wasn't just right. I think we discovered very quickly this wasn't just a song to end The Battle of The Five Armies - it was a song to say goodbye to Middle-earth."

"Dragons might be intrigued by flattery and riddling words. But unfortunately for Bilbo, Smaug is much more interested in disposing of guests than he is with talking to them."

Lego Creation: Company of Thorin

Pate-keetongu of Cyclopic Bricks recently posted a series in which he recreated Gandalf and all fourteen members of Thorin Oakenshield's party from Tolkien's The Hobbit.   I personally thought that Fili and Gandalf turned out especially well, but the sheer detail of this set tells me that Pate poured a lot of love into this project.

Of course, we've cover a lot of amazing Lord of the Rings Lego sets, including huge Minas Tirith and Rivendell sets, but I would pay good money to see these along side a giant Smaug in a scale Lake-town set.
"It took 656 days counting from Balin Bust posted before the premiere of An Unexpected Journey, or 580 days if counting from the posting date of Balin & Dwalin. That is around 10% of my current life, and that sound quite lot if you ask me! Naturally all the positive feedback I got during the project on Flickr, Eurobricks and Palikkatakomo plus from friends from Bio-Klaani and surrondings gave me heaps of inspiration. This wasn’t a project at the beginning.

I just threw together Balin and Dwalin and Oin and Bifur and Thorin and there I went… And then somebody asked if I’ll build Gandalf and Bilbo and I said that yes, why not? And I’m glad I did, as they are iconic characters and turned out decent."

Quick Pic: Desolation of Smaug Pumpkins

"Cut it close, but just managed to finish this years pumpkins! Lighting them both together was a heck of a job, and that last picture was as good as I could manage, and carving those small pumpkins was no easy task either. Regardless, I’m proud of how they both came out!"
