Video: Pale Blue Dot

"Pale Blue Dot" by ORDER

In my opinion, Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot is one of the most resonant pieces of popular science literature ever published in the English language, and I'm delighted to see another fan of Sagan's work pay tribute to the book.
A visual response to Carl Sagan's famed 'Pale Blue Dot' piece where he muses on our planet's appearance in a photograph taken by the Voyager 1 space probe. The most distant photograph ever taken of Earth.

A personal project designed and created in After effects with extensive sound work created in addition to the music and spoken words from the Sagan archive. Had wanted to bring visuals to something by Sagan for some time and finished this after working on it periodically over the last 3 months.

Papercraft: Pop-Up Stories

Harry, Hermione, and Ron

"You know those moments when you finish a piece, stand back to take a final look and say "Holy crap, I didn't know I could do that!" Yeah, this was one of those moments. I've never done faces, never done so many figures that needed to look like someone specific and was honestly wondering if I'd have to call the client and tell her I didn't think I could do it. But, as it was a Christmas present for her Granddaughter, I gave it a go and I'm really proud of it! Totally doing the happy dance right now."

Street Art: The Reader

"The Reader" by Read More
On exhibit at Ditch Projects October 6 – October 27, 2012
"Read More’s work often appears dry and aggressive. It is calculated and crisp, loudly shouting at you from even the smallest of pieces; it does not seem to leave much room for subtlety. Often seemingly unfinished, it pulls at you with its details, the layers of paper and color creating a jumbled conversation of disjointed thoughts. It is a record of daily events, a visual diary of confusion."

Installation: Diagnosis

On exhibit at “The Last Bookstore” in downtown Los Angeles
"After my final assessment of your condition, it is in my best judgment that you are suffering from severe dementia and hallucinations. While reviewing your brain scans I found some bizarre irregularities….

What is it? What exactly are you seeing? You say there are books flying off of the shelf?

…your condition may be much worse than I anticipated…"

Interview: Jonathan Bender

Jonathan Bender, author of LEGO: A Love Story, speaking at Google

There are 62 LEGO bricks for every person in the world, and at age 30, Jonathan Bender realized that he didn't have a single one of them. While reconsidering his childhood dream of becoming a master model builder for The LEGO Group, he discovers the men and women who are skewing the averages with collections of hundreds of thousands of LEGO bricks. What is it about the ubiquitous, brightly colored toys that makes them so hard for everyone to put down?

In search of answers and adventure, Jonathan Bender sets out to explore the quirky world of adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs) while becoming a builder himself. As he participates in challenges at fan conventions, searches for the largest private collection in the United States, and visits LEGO headquarters (where he was allowed into the top secret set vault), he finds his LEGO journey twinned with a second creative endeavor—to have a child. His two worlds intertwine as he awaits the outcome: Will he win a build competition or bring a new fan of LEGO into the world? Like every really good love story, this one has surprises—and a happy ending.

Interview: Maurice Sendak

Children’s book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak, of Where the Wild Things Are fame, died yesterday. You can read his obituary on the New York Times. Most notable among his achievements is bring a darker tone to children's books. Do yourself a favor and watch his interview on the Colbert Report (parts 1 and 2 above), he was a witty, delightful curmudgeon up until his last days.

LoTR Book Covers by Eminina
My latest college project was to redesign my favourite book covers! These are just the main cover designs, not yet made to look like books. I thought they’d be better displayed like this for internet viewing.
