Denmark, I like your attitude.  You just moved to the top of the list of my future vacation destinations.

This is a photo of a real ad at the Women's Cultural History Museum in Denmark.

Lego Creation: Claptrap

LEGO Claptrap (CL4P-TP) from Borderlands 2 by Simon Liu

One day someone's going to invent a game that's nothing but torturing Claptrap, and I'm gonna be first in line to buy it.  Not since Link's fairy guide has there been a character as annoying as ol' Claptrap.

Hackers watch Hackers: "Hackers was a financial flop, but its hilariously over-the-top early CGI visuals, oddly prescient view on technology, and glam-cyberpunk aesthetic rendered it a cult classic. To honor its 20th anniversary—at a time dogged by newfound fears about what the future of technology holds—we thought it would be fitting to bring together a group of actual hackers to screen and discuss the film."

Video: Avengers of Oz: Age of Tin Man

YouTube user Darren Wallace took some video editing liberties in creating a mash-up of the popular Marvel franchise Avengers with the classic film The Wizard of Oz.

The mash-up re-imagines the Tin Man as Ultron, the Cowardly Lion as Thor, the Scarecrow as Captain America and Dorthy and Toto as Black Widow. This is the stuff movie-lover dreams are made of.

Short Film: Actor Seeks Role

"Actor Seeks Role" is a short comedy film about the difficulties of pursuing an acting career.  In it, a struggling method actor resorts to medical acting, a part-time gig performing the symptoms of various illnesses for student doctors.

As two competing mentors direct our struggling actor, their incongruous advice sparks an internal tug-of-war.  The film is a darker-toned character study that explores what happens when preparing for a role turns into an unhealthy obsession.  The film builds up slowly, paying fantastic attention to detail.

Short Film: Second Thoughts

"Second Thoughts" directed by David Shane of B Negative
Written by Matt Heath, Eric Stevens and Joshua Dimarcantonio

"Second Thoughts" is a dark comedy in which a cult leader gets cold feet when it comes time to "transcend" into the afterlife with his followers.

The High Priest Nebula, leader of a religious cult, is about to lead his acolytes in a mass suicide so that they can leave their mortal vessels and transcend to the planet Quathcore.  However, with the elixir in his chalice and the moment upon him, he is unsure whether he has faith enough to proceed. The only problem is that he was the one who prophesised that he would lead the others in their transcendence.

It's a strong short that expertly milks every drop of humor from its central premise, affording each character an opportunity to shine.  The overwhelming awkwardness of the High Priest Nebula is expertly portrayed by Rory Scovel.  The laughter keeps flowing as he squirms through evasion after evasion in a style reminiscent of an episode of Fawlty Towers.  Despite retreading familiar comedic ground, this short never outstays its welcome, though.

Lego Creation: Avenger Mechs

Tinman X Ironman by tcflic

Lego Mech Suits for the Avengers

In this brilliant series, Titan Creations designs Lego mech suits for each of the Avengers!  I can't help but think that this would be an AWESOME Lego video game.

It would be just like Hawkeye to wear a mech suit and use it for nothing better than drawing an even larger bow.

Lego Creation: Mad Max War Rig

I predict that there are going to be a lot more Lego Mad Max vehicles popping up around the web.
"I had free time so I made the front part of the War Rig with my available Legos because I do adult things."

Lego Creation: Mad Max Fleet

Lego mastermind Calin has done an amazing job capturing the true stars of Mad Max: Fury Road - the vehicles - in brick form.  Calin has included the Interceptor, the Nux Car, and even a few unexpected vehicles, including a mini that completely escaped my notice.  I'm praying that eventually instructions for these make their way online, because I would love to play with  model these myself... in a completely adult and mature way.

Make sure you CLICK through.  I've only posted one shot for each vehicle out of respect for the builder, but the Flickr album offers shots from many different angles.
"A mix of ideas and some more exploring of rims. These just might be THE rims for the Nux car, unfortunately the wheels holder doesn't allow much in terms of positioning of the grille.

I used to think TT wheels and holders are a walk in the park to play, but they turn out to be quite a challenge when you REALLY want to play them."

Sweets: Gremlins Cake

Source: Imgur via Reddit

Christine McConnell recently posted a gallery of images of a cake she made of Gizmo, my favorite childhood movie character.  That in itself would have been amazing, but she didn't stop there.  She took it to whole nother level. Instead of just showing off her cake to garner her well deserved culinary props, she staged a series of scenes in which the Gremlin transforms and runs amok, just like in the movie.  I feel like she ought to be presented with some sort of award.  Check out the full gallery below, then get over to Reddit to tell her how amazing she is!

Crafts: Stained Glass Direwolf

I love the colors in this piece.  The creator says in the thread that he'll be selling similar items on Etsy soon, but he didn't link to a store.  I'll be checking the thread again in a few weeks for updates, because at the right price, one of these would look good in my house.

Crafts: Stained Glass Stark Sigil

Merchandise available for purchase from Etsy.
Source: Imgur via Reddit

I read in a thread on Reddit that this stained glass piece sold on Etsy for $65 and its creator basically made no profit. Personally, I think I would have priced it much higher. Those glass beer advertisements you see in hipster pubs can go for as much as $500, and not even hipsters aren't as fanatical as Game of Thrones fans.

Fresh Take: Sengoku Avengers

"Sengoku Avengers" by Champaign, Illinois-based Alex Mitchell (Genesischant)

These are incredible, not just because of the art style, but because of the enormous amount of thought the artist put into them.  I would love to see this characters in a story.
"I was wanting to do a new redesigned/ translated set of comics characters for a while, and the new Avengers movie presented a great team to build from. It has the kind of big iconic characters that work best for these sort of reimaginings. Instead of the theatrical 'chambara' setting I used for my Justice League, I decided that the historically based, yet still legendary figures of the Sengoku era of Japanese history would be the inspiration."

"Hi I'm Blue, and I struggle with mental illness.

Some of you will dismiss me, some of you will be scared of me, some of you will blame me, but a surprising amount of you will understand me, because 1 in 4 people experience mental health issues. Considering so many people experience it, we hear so little about it; it's the family secret you can't tell anyone, the fake smile so know one knows, the calling in sick but blaming food poisoning. It's hard for me to write about, but I write this hoping it makes it easier for the next person to speak about it."

Apparently Dudes Who Use Female Avatars In MMORPGs Aren’t Doing It Right

As Bethesda is gearing up for the release of a new game in the Fallout franchise, Shamus Young of Twenty Sided considers the writing in Fallout 3. In a five part series, Shamus details the "blistering stupidity" of the concept, the world, the protagonists, the antagonists, and the conclusion. Young has been featured previously on the blue talking about both Skyrim and Star Trek.

As a former economics student, I really enjoyed reading Stephen Winson's history of World of Warcraft’s gold economy earlier this week.  I would love to see a similar write up on Project Entropia's economy, but I'm just a nerd like that.

Short Film: Coda

"Coda" Directed by Alan Holly of Dublin-based And Maps And Plans
Written by Alan Holly and Rory Byrne

"Coda" is a hauntingly beautiful short animated film that follows one lost soul’s drunken stumble home from a nightclub in the early hours of the morning.  What starts as a warm story about a fool's drunk antics quickly transforms into a quiet reflection on life and mortality that will stick with you all day.  At the risk of ruining the twist, I’ll stop there, but I think it's fair to say that anytime an animation manages to earn over twenty international film awards, including Best Animated Short Film at the prestigious SXSW Film Festival in Austin, and an Oscar shortlist nomination, you can be fairly certain that it warrants a few minutes minutes of your time.

hand-drawn production has a bleak look full of vivid color contrasts that recalls paintings such as the famous "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper.

Fan Film: The Rush

Directed by Matthew Arnold and Freddie Wong

"The Rush" is an intense StarCraft fan film from Freddie Wong that's a whole lot darker than you might expect. It's a great film with awesome production values that fans of the game are sure to love.

The title of the short was inspired by the term "Zerg Rush," which denotes a strategy in which a player creates as many units as possible as quickly as possible in order to attack before their opponent can fully mobilize his own forces.  This film highlights the effectiveness of the strategy.

The film stars Ellary Porterfield and Nico David, and it was co-directed by Wong and Matthew Arnold.

Fan Film: The Amazing SpiderDad

Directed and Edited by Adam Brashaw

You have to watch this awesome Spider-Man fan-film from parkour pro Mike Wilson. The film is a heartfelt tribute to his son Jayden, who passed away after being diagnosed with a Grade 4 brain stem tumor.

Short Film: The Age of Curious

"THE AGE OF CURIOUS" Directed By Luca Toth of Fakt Visual Lab

"The Age of Curious" is a dreamy animation set in a bizarre, Miyazaki-like universe in which three teenagers set out on a journey to peek under the hair of God.  As you might guess, it's not a traditional storyline.  The creator describes the coming-of-age tale as "an association-based psychological journey" open to interpretation.  It's a highly atmospheric short film that will either delight or frustrate you.

Short Film: Smoke Bomb Boys

Written by James P. Gannon, Joseph K. Gannon, Chris Cipriano & Matt Ferrin

The Smoke Bomb Boys are the guys who never really fit in. They do things their own way with a course set for the dream: no shitty jobs, no complicated relationships, just hanging out, blowing stuff up and fucking around. But sometimes the realities of the real world may make that seem like it’s not enough and fosters an internal struggle over conformity and acceptance within their group. Choices are made, friendship’s are tested, and shit explodes.

Ink on vellum, with digital color and finishing. This was to be printed on mirrored mylar only. The concept being, though Daredevil is blind, the only thing he can’t actually see is himself. Considering that Game of Thrones is one of the most consistently raunchy shows on television, the fan art that floods the internet is surprisingly tame.  That's why I was delighted when I came across this series of classically drawn pin-up girls featuring the ladies of Game of Thrones.
