When you're the 44th largest university in the UK, how do you set yourself apart and gain some attention in the era of viral video? You release a short film showing an alien invasion and your student body's reaction to it. And, yes, that is the voice of Locutus of Borg (he is the University's Chancellor).

Posters: StarCraft
"We are the blades of Aiur" is a quote from Zealots of Starcraft II. If interested, you can find the 360 degree view on Youtube and a rough tutorial of how this is made here. The design belongs to Blizzard, I've just modeled it in 3D.

Posters: Fifty Goodies
Fifty Ways To Be A Good Guy by Robert Ball
Like the baddies, there's loads of goodies that got left out, but it would have been perverse to have Fifty Goodies without Indy. The impact of that first perfect film had enough energy to carry the rest of the franchise along even though each was a bit worse than the last (Last Crusade is barely a film, more like a random sketch show with some guy in a hat along for continuity reasons).
Installation: Leviathan
Leviathan by Anish Kapoor
Each year, the French ministry of culture and communication invites a
leading artist to create a work that responds to the exceptional
architectural space of the Grand Palais. As part of a challenge to match the grand scale of the Grand Palais, Kapoor filled it with a massive four-chambered balloon bathed in
red lights. The entire installment makes a person feel like they're voyaging through the chambers of the human heart.

The shop depicts what seems to be a robot repair shop where the owners have left for vacation, leaving robots in various stages of repair, including one peering through the store windows longing for life in the outside world. The scene appears to be set in the future, where robot ownership is commonplace, with a 1950’s aesthetic. Interactive QR codes and a website allow smartphone and internet users a behind-the-scenes view of the creation of the art piece. Those who frequent the area will see the installation change and evolve over the course of the year.

In 1967, artist Ralph Steadman — whose freewheeling design would go on to be synonymous with Hunter S. Just like Salvador Dalí, here was an illustrator whose style was a custom fit for Carroll's phantasmagoric fantasy world.

Installation: Field of Light
"Field of Light" by Bruce Munro
Part of Holbourne Museum’s winter experience which consists of over 5,000 bulbs of light, threaded with fibre optic cables and planted in the grounds of the museum in Bath, England. Acrylic stems are topped by frosted spheres which are threaded with fibre optic cables and lit by a colour projector. The result is quite magical, as both colour and light flow through the bulbs to create a uniquely captivating experience.
The idea for the installation came to Munro nearly twenty years ago, while he was on walkabout in Australia when he saw the barren desert blossom after the rain. Like the desert, Field of Light lies dormant in the day, but after the darkness falls, the bulbs flower with gentle rhythms of light and patterns of color.

Video: Wikipedia Promo
While Jimmy Wales maintains that Wikipedia will never place advertising on Wikipedia, I can't help but think that a bit of soft marketing is exactly what the world’s largest online encyclopedia needs to reverse its recent decline. Sure, anytime you run a Google search for anything, Wikipedia pops up at the top of your search engine results, but somehow, the site's sense of community has flagged.
What Doug Chang and his team at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena have created is a beautiful promotion that perfectly captures the sense of wonder that Wikipedia used to inspire.

The Morgan Library Black Hours, one of the world's most beautiful and striking illuminated manuscripts, has been digitized in its entirety. Richly decorated in blue and gold on black vellum, it is one of a surviving handful of such manuscripts produced in late 15th century Bruges. (Poorer quality, but still interesting, images of another such work, the Black Hours of Charles the Bold, are also online.

Sculpture: Custom Metalwork
Custom Sculptures by Tom Samui
Tom Samui from Switzerland makes these custom sculptures out of recycled car and motorcycle parts. He and his team have been perfecting these sculptures over the last ten years. Once a month they go to a junk yard and cart away a truckload of old car and motorcycle parts. The pieces are cleaned and sorted by type; nothing is thrown away. All pieces are welded together, polished and varnished with special anti-rust lacquer. It takes about 400 hours of work to complete a large sculpture. The details and the quality of the work can be seen especially on the deer and the American Indian on the horse by clicking on the images (below).
Whether you have a drawing, a photo, a model, an idea; he can make almost any object in any size between 3 feet (1 meter) and 26 feet (8 meters). If the sculpture is smaller than 3 feet (1 meter) the minimum order is 20 pieces. The larger pieces can be taken apart into up to 10 pieces and can be transported to almost anywhere in the world. Production time for custom pieces is two to three months.
Short Film: T Is for Toilet
T Is for Toilet directed by Lee Hardcastle
This is the Freaky Claymation Horror Short that won the "ABCs of Death" Anthology Director Contest. Be warned it's a bit disturbing, and definitely not for children. It tells the story of a little boy who is a bit uncomfortable about using the toilet.

Short Film: The Search
A lonely man's search for the existence of life outside our universe takes a remarkable turn when he connects with a recently bereaved family. This is a genuine human story of a troubled family, a piece of technology meant to find life on other planets, and a reminder that we’re not alone.
