A Super Nintendo style recreation of the newest "Doctor Who" intro sequence. I arranged the track in FL Studio using SNES soundfonts from Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy IV and F-Zero. If you're wondering how I got that wizzing sound in the beginning, it was a combination of "Lavos" sound effects from Crono Trigger :-)

The singing turrets were one of my favourite parts of Portal 2. The other day while replaying the test chamber that they're in I noticed a can of beans had been left near the grating where the turrets are stored, so this is the inevitable outcome of that. This is the 3 Man Chess Variant, played on a round board  It's not quite as exotic as Sheldon's Three Person Chess from The Big Bang Theory, but it's easier to remember the rules.  The rules fairly simple.  Most of the additional rules are border control rules and guidelines regarding how to deal with the circle in the center of the board, which basically boil down to “just ignore it.”

Video: Minecraft Ghibli World

Minecraft modders at Oz Studios recreated Studio Ghibli films, including Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpieces Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, and Howl’s Moving Castle, in Minecraft bricks. Even if you don't know the movies, the sheer scale and dedication involved here makes the clip worth a watch anyway.

If you're a Minecraft player, you can grab the map here.

Short Film: Avatar Days

This is short film directed by Gavin Kelly. What makes this one special is the fact that it was filmed, vfx'ed and comped all in just 4 days. It was made as part of the "4 day Film" catagory in the Darklight Film Festival. It follows 4 MMORPG players taking about their online persona's. As they tell their stories we see them go about their everyday lives against the mundane backdrop of city life...but as their Avatars.

There was a team of people on this with director Gavin Kelly leading the troupe. I worked on the 3d characters along with John O' Connell and Will Sharkey.

Frederik and Gerrit Braun, energetic twin brothers with no shortage of dreams, have just finished construction of the world’s largest model airport. With 40,000 lights, 15,000 figurines, 500 cars, 10,000 trees, 50 trains, 1000 wagons, 100 signals, 200 switches, 300 buildings and 40 planes, Knuffingen Airport is both a wonder to behold as well as a technological tour de force. The best part of Knuffingen is that it’s alive. Forty planes and 90 vehicles move about autonomously. All told, it cost $5 million to construct.

Crafts: Model Portal Turret

Yes that's a real laser. No fancy Photoshop work here.

So now that Portal 2 has come out, I'm sure many of you have noticed that there were some significant changes made to the design of the Turret. As a result of this my Turret with be designated Version 1.0 or Classic and be representative of the design from the original game.

Atlas and P-Body action figures from Portal 2 by Chris Hooton

The Stolen Scream. In 2006, photographer Noam Galai posted a handful of dramatic self-portraits to Flickr. Unbeknownst to him, his screaming face slowly took on a life of its own (often as a symbol of unrest or protest), appearing in countless permutations the world over. In this mini-documentary, Noam is surprisingly pragmatic about his accidental fame, and the fact that he only got paid once for the legal use of the picture.

Sword & Sworcery EP is "a brave experiment in I/O cinema with an archetypical video game aesthetic." To put it more simply, it's an arthouse adventure game with unique pixel graphics, available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Featuring music by Jim Guthrie, S&S is inspired by the Legend of Zelda, Carl Jung, Tim Schafer, and David Lynch. Trailer.

Lego Creations: Arrival of the Emperor

When Jay Hoff decided to create a diorama of the Emperor’s arrival (from the beginning of Return of the Jedi), he wasn’t messing around.

Hand-built to Minifigure scale, this mind-boggling scene is comprised of over 30,000 LEGO pieces, and includes 388 Star Wars minifigs. Most impressively, it’s built to Minifigure scale. The brilliance is in the details: the Imperial Shuttle, the gleaming black floor with red carpet path (comprised entirely of bricks turned sideways), the intricate hangar bay walls, the perfectly-placed Stormtroopers, the open bay doors with star field beyond... All built for Science Discovery Day at Berkeley Preparatory School Tampa.

Posters: Minimalist Thor

To celebrate the release of this new batch of Marvel movies I have decided to release a set of posters, one for each of the next 5 Marvel films, starting with Thor. This 24x18 inch poster will be limited to a run of only 10 copies, signed and numbered. Each future Marvel poster print will also be limited to a run of 10, so overall only 50 posters will be produced, spanning five films.

Mash-Up: Predator versus Ewoks

I would totally buy this comic. After the Empire, I think the little guys would make short work of the Predator.

Presh writes: "I was talking to a buddy of mine the other day about the new Predators movie. I think it looks pretty cool and I'm looking forward to it.

So that led to me talking about an idea I had about a Predator landing on Endor and he gets his ass handed to him. I mean, sure some of the natives will get killed, but in the end these teddy bears took down an EMPIRE! So one Predator is not going to be enough.

Dark Horse should do it! And yes, I did come up with this idea on April Fools... but it has potential..."
