This is an excerpt from Disney's Mars and Beyond science show from 1957. Its an animated spoof of all of the pulp science fiction of the day, with the most generic, yet recognizable plot points around! Its such a great job, you could put it right in with all the books and films of the day, it would stand its ground.

Auckland-based Illustrator / Designer Joseph Senior has a few Hello-Kitty pop-culture mash-ups to share, since his last series of eye-poppers, with this new series showcasing a variety of themes. Shown below are my top three favs (of the new series). CLICK THRU to see the rest!
"These Hello Kitty mash-ups started out in life as a kind of tribute to George Lucas and Star Wars, and have sort of branched out from there ... I had a break from doing them for a while, but I'm back to doing more of them."mentionsJoseph. As for these designs being made into tangible figurines (as most folks had desired), Joseph also adds: "Since I don't own the rights to Hello Kitty or any of the 'characters' I paint, I don't know how I could ever market my 'little friends'."
Shaner writes: "Here's an extremely fun commission idea that came up in the last batch. Chris Murrin asked for a take on René Magritte's The Treachery of Images, with a twist of Plastic Man. Chris said I could make Plas look like anything I wanted, but I had to hit the joke on the head and do a pipe."
NBC4 offers a few great photos of Columbus College of Art & Design students playing around infront of their new 8-bit Super Mario Brothers mural. The mural depicts classic moments from Super Mario Bros., positioned without Mario or Luigi so passers-by can hop into level 1-1.
"Tony Orrico performs a graphite drawing of 8 circles. Each circle is drawn by four patterns consisting of 31.25 efforts each, 1,000 efforts total. The roll is measured by the torso and one arm. This event took place in 2009 at PlacMark, a residency and performance space in Hudson, New York."
Behold the macabre revelations of Kris Kuksi, where you will find great beauty in the grotesque. Described as "Fantastic Realism," his work incorporates figures from history, mythology and nature to create bizarre yet somehow familiar sculptures.
